Job Description

Senior Specialist Climate Change at ENCO will implement a low-carbon operating model for ENOC Group that includes diversifying operations to broader energy production, ideally with a growing focus on renewables, by investing in necessary capital assets as well as research and development of low-carbon energy sources for reducing GHG emission intensity and accelerating the net-zero process. Collect data and review them for further development of various climate scenarios to assess physical climate risks and asset vulnerability, with a focus on how the frequency and severity of climate risks may change over time, to establish Group and ENOC BU level procedures to ensure a successful transition to resilient infrastructure, respond to climate-related disasters in upstream supply, midstream storage, and downstream consumption. Play a pivotal role in leading the company’s efforts to address climate change challenges. This is a Senior level full time job. And salary can range between 15000-35000 AED/month.

Responsibilities of Senior Specialist Climate Change

  • Collaborate with senior management to develop ENOC’s climate change strategy and policies.
  • Monitor global and regional climate policies, analyzing potential impacts and opportunities.
  • Collect data for detailed carbon footprint assessments across ENOC’s operations.
  • Evaluate emerging climate technologies for potential investment.
  • Implement strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, identify emission sources, and adopt low-carbon technologies.
  • Establish GHG emission baselines and assess climate-related risks.
  • Conduct advanced climate modeling to project impacts on operations and assets.
  • Develop scenario models and pathway analyses for sustainability goals.
  • Assist in piloting new technologies and stay updated on advancements in carbon capture and storage.
  • Conduct due diligence for new business opportunities and analyze climate-related risks for financing strategies.
  • Implement KPIs to monitor sustainability impacts and establish the ENOC Sustainability Index.
  • Benchmark performance against industry standards and engage with investors on climate initiatives.
  • Stay informed on global climate policies and update ENOC’s sustainability strategy.
  • Implement policies and procedures aligned with international standards.
  • Prepare briefing papers and presentations for leadership based on climate research.
  • Integrate sustainability into ENOC’s products and processes through partnerships and R&D collaborations.
  • Develop UAE Nationals’ skills in climate change through training programs.
  • Ensure compliance with climate guidelines across ENOC operations.
  • Advocate for ENOC’s climate initiatives with regulatory bodies and prepare relevant reports.
  • Conduct GHG assurance audits and improve data quality.
  • Facilitate award applications and governance for performance recognition and improvement.

Requirements for Role of Senior Specialist Climate Change

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering (or similar is considered with commensurate experience).
  • Certified lead auditor for ISO 50001, ISO 14001, ISO 9001, ISO 45001, Equator Principles for risk management; UN Global Compact Principles; Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and preferably at least 1-year experience in developing and assessing business excellence models such as EFQM, DQA award etc.
  • Experience in clean development mechanism, Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, COP proceedings, green buildings, sustainable/carbon finance, GHG accounting, life cycle assessments, and sustainability reporting and carbon reduction strategies.
  • Strong experience across business and corporate experience would be an added advantage with minimum 10 years’ experience in oil and gas industry.
  • Experience in successful transformation and cultural change in large organization.

Skills And Knowledge Desired

  • Deep knowledge and understanding of oil and gas and energy industry.
  • Excellent grasp in technical analysis, research, forecasting and strategy development and good networking with industry thought-leaders and policymakers.
  • Excellent grasp in climate-risk mitigation megatrends and impacting ingraining of appropriate elements into business activities in short-, medium- and long-term. A sound knowledge and technical expertise on scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions.
  • Awareness in dealing in different markets, global business across multiple organizations, multi-cultural working environment, and geographical interfaces.
  • Analytical and research skills, including data analysis and investigative analytical skills and ability to research and present key information concisely.
  • In-depth understanding of local and international requirements approved models for climate change.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, including confident written and verbal communication.
  • Excellent managerial, organisational and presentation skills.
  • High level of computer literacy (e.g., Microsoft Office programs, sustainability reporting software, analytical and climate modelling software).
