Login to Send MessageThe University of Stirling needs a Network Specialist to join its infrastructure team. This full time role involves supporting, deploying, and maintaining the campus network including LAN, WAN, and Wi Fi. You will also manage system security infrastructure. You will work within a team of four Network Specialists. The campus network currently has about 550 switches and 2,500 wireless access points. The university is migrating towards a Cisco SDA architecture. You will report to the Infrastructure Development Team Leader. This role requires at least three days per week on campus in Stirling. If you have a degree in a science, engineering, or IT subject or significant practical experience, this role suits you.

Provide daily operational support for LAN and WAN networks
Manage firewalls, wireless LAN controllers, and identity services on premises and in the public cloud
Ensure network stability and resolve technical issues with routing protocols
Use diagnostic and network administration tools at all OSI model levels
Identify and resolve network related hardware problems
Support all copper and fibre cabling infrastructure
Plan, install, and support hardware and software upgrades
Resolve associated technical issues quickly
Analyse customer requirements to improve networking tools
Monitor systems and oversee network improvement processes
Prepare and maintain documentation of network and cabling layouts
Assist in network capacity planning
Maintain an inventory of network related IT property and assets
Implement secure network access protocols
Monitor, evaluate, and resolve security issues
Contribute to network related projects
Degree level education in science, engineering, or IT, or significant practical experience
IP networking experience in an organisation with multiple sites and over 1,000 end users
Experience designing network solutions including options analysis, product selection, and costing
Comprehensive knowledge of IP technologies such as routing, switching, WiFi, AAA, IPSec, VPN, and VRF
Knowledge of network security principles
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
Experience providing end user technical support and fault resolution under pressure
Customer oriented approach to service design and delivery
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Highly organised with ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines
Ability to investigate, collate, and analyse information
Willingness to work outside normal hours for maintenance and emergencies
Meticulous attention to detail
Ability to perform manual handling of sometimes large or heavy items
CCNA or other network industry certification
Experience with Cisco IOS and IOS XE configuration
Cisco ISE configuration and maintenance
Cisco Catalyst Controller and wireless system experience
Cisco firewall configuration
SSL and IPSec VPN knowledge
Active Directory, Radius, and TACACS+ experience
Structured cabling standards including fibre
BYOD and NAC experience
Network automation and scripting
VOIP and QoS knowledge
Data centre networking experience
ITIL, Prince2, or customer service excellence standards
Experience in higher or further education
The annual salary for this Network Specialist role ranges from 40000 to 50000 GBP. Your experience and qualifications determine the exact amount.
