American University of Sharjah needs a Library Assistant for its Technical Services department. This full time role involves performing specialized library functions. You will maintain consistent and efficient acquisitions processes. You will also perform basic cataloging and bibliographic work. In addition, you will process serials and update online holdings records. You will answer questions and assist users at the Library Service Desk. If you hold a bachelor degree from an accredited four year college or university, this role suits you. Two to three years of related library experience is preferred. You must be highly detail oriented and have excellent English communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Search, create records, and perform bibliographic data entry for book and non book materials

• Acquire materials requested by librarians and faculty using the library services platform Fusion and vendor interfaces

• Monitor faculty special orders and send proactive notifications with status updates

• Compile statistical data to monitor order volume and departmental spending

• Correspond with vendors about price changes, duplicate records, cancellations, and claims

• Prepare shipment documents and liaise with library administration on payment details

• Process orders for electronic resources

• Activate eBooks and check access

• Process print materials shipments and manage record load transactions

• Ensure invoice accuracy at all times

• Identify and correct vendor supplied MARC records to maintain database integrity

• Provide courteous and knowledgeable customer service at the Library Service Desk

• Assist users with circulation and inquiries

• Push loaded book trolleys and lift at least 4.5 kilograms

• Perform other duties as assigned to support the library’s mission

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree from a four year college or university

• Ability to push loaded book trolleys and lift at least 4.5 kilograms

• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Windows and MS Office Suite

• High attention to detail for bibliographic and data tasks

• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English

• Commitment to providing courteous and knowledgeable customer service

Preferred Qualifications

• Two to three years of related library experience or training

• Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable

• Ability to work some evening and weekend hours as required

• Familiarity with Integrated Library Systems or Library Services Platforms such as WMS, Alma, or Sirsi Dynix

• Knowledge of MARC, LC Classification, and subject headings is a strong asset
