Patient care assistants are the constant presence at the bedside Health Care — the team members who ensure that the immediate physical environment, comfort, and basic needs of every patient are met while registered nurses focus on clinical assessment and treatment. This Patient Care Assistant role at University Hospital Sharjah operates within a JCI-accredited acute care environment, supporting the nursing team across a defined scope of non-licensed patient care activities. You work directly alongside registered nurses, maintain clean and safe clinical areas, assist with patient mobility and meal support, accompany patients to diagnostic procedures, and contribute to the unit’s quality improvement and safety culture. Key Responsibilities

• Assist registered nurses with patient care activities within approved non-licensed scope of practice. Follow all UHS, MOH, JCI, and FDON policies and standards consistently across every shift.
• Support patient mobility and comfort by assisting with turning, moving, and transporting patients via stretcher or wheelchair. Act as chaperone when required, preserving patient dignity throughout.
• Assist patients who are unable to feed themselves. Deliver and return meal trays, record fluid intake, and report observations to the assigned registered nurse promptly.
• Make unoccupied beds and assist registered nurses with occupied bed changes. Tidy patient rooms and report any unsafe conditions to the team leader immediately.
• Accompany patients to diagnostic procedures including X-ray, ECG, and CT scan. Accompany physicians during physical examinations as directed.
• Weigh ambulatory patients and record results accurately. Clean up after procedures and treat used instruments in line with standard precautions and infection control protocols.
• Check and restock supply rooms as designated by the team leader. Prepare and stock clinical areas in line with unit protocols and maintain an adequate supply inventory at all times.
• Perform quality control checks on refrigerators and monitor room temperatures. Report equipment malfunctions and damages to the biomedical department and nurse in charge without delay.
• Participate in nursing continuous quality improvement initiatives, in-service education programs, unit meetings, and committee functions as assigned.
• Initiate emergency and fire safety measures as necessary. Report all incidents through agreed channels and complete incident reports as required.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Minimum two years of experience in a nursing assistant, patient care, or healthcare support role in a clinical setting.
• Proficient verbal and written English communication skills. Ability to follow clinical instructions accurately and report patient observations clearly to the nursing team.
• Understanding of basic infection control practices and patient safety principles applicable to an acute care ward environment.
• Sensitivity to patient comfort, privacy, and dignity across all personal care and support interactions.
• Ability to work effectively within a diverse, multicultural healthcare team under the direction of registered nurses and team leaders.
• Previous UAE experience is a strong advantage.
• Experience in a JCI-accredited hospital environment is a significant advantage.
