Role of Medical Imaging Research Assistant

Work on artificial intelligence based material identification and quantification methods and integrate them with spectral photon-counting CT for accurate detection of crystal arthropathies as our disease model.

Duties of Medical Imaging Research Assistant

  • Developing or obtaining custom phantoms with inserts made of synthetic crystals at known concentrations typically found in patients with crystal arthropathies.
  • Acquisition of phantom data using the new generation small bore (125mm diameter) MARS SPCCT scanner (MARS Microlab 5×120) installed at Khalifa University’s medical imaging lab.
  • Feeding of optimized phantom data in to develop Al-based material identification methods at the voxel-by-voxel level adapted to SPCCT. This part will go through various iterations until the technique is tuned for crystal-specific assignments.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Imaging technology.
  • Master’s degree is preferable.
  • 1-2 years of research experience.

Required Skills & Knowledge

  • Avanced level of computational and programming skills.
  • Strong knowledge of image processing.
  • General knowledge of x-ray physics.
  • Strong networking skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with clinicians, engineers, other local and international researchers, and graduate students.
