Job Description
In conjunction with the Fleet Foreman and other technicians, the Wagon Technician carry out the day to day maintenance, servicing and repairs on all types of Wagons, Rolling Stock, plant and equipment. Travel out to remote locations in order to carry out repairs or to recover failed Rolling Stock and equipment.
Responsibilities of Wagon Technician
- Prepare for and complete maintenance tasks in accordance with laid down specifications and maintenance instructions and as directed by the Team Leader.
- Ensure all work undertaken is recorded in the maintenance management system and relevant work orders signed for.
- Carry out fault finding and repair work as required.
- Carry out modifications and enhancements to Rolling Stock.
- Operation and servicing of depot plant and equipment.
- Provide technical assistance on-board train services.
- Attend satellite locations to assist in the recovery of Rolling Stock and equipment.
- Undertake shunting and driving duties as required.
- Provide training and guidance to other Rolling Stock technicians.
- Engage in and maintain competence skills in relation to vehicle maintenance.
- Engage in versatility training in order to add additional competences e.g. mechanical skills, electrical skills, non-destructive testing, welding, lathe operator, lifting equipment operator etc.
- Engage in a Continuous Improvement culture, fully engaging in the process of sharing best practice.
- Protect and maintain the depot’s tools and equipment in a serviceable condition.
- Collect and record statistical data as required.
- Be part of a team and encourage team working.
- Work a shift roster in order to cover a 24/7 operation.
- Report unsafe acts and unserviceable equipment promptly.
- Be responsible for your own, and others safety.
Requirements of Wagon Technician
- A good level of basic education.
- 2+ years of experience in similar role.
- Apprentice trained and/or relevant engineering qualifications or experience.
- Full driving license.
- Rolling Stock Maintenance desirable, mainly on the Wagons side.

- English as first language or advanced level of written and verbal skill.
- Good communication skills.
- Basic computer skills.
