Technologist University Hospital Sharjah

University Hospital Sharjah is seeking an Emirati Laboratory Technologist to join their talented team. This position is responsible for performance of all laboratory-based tasks, which include patients sampling, testing, measuring, recording and analysing results in various patient specimens. The role holder also provides all the required technical support to enable the laboratory to function effectively whilst adhering to correct and proper policies and procedures, lab health and safety guideline to achieve high quality results.

Duties of Technologist

• Actively participates in upholding and promoting the vision and culture of University Hospital – Sharjah (UHS).
• Complies with all UHS policies and procedures, safety and fire regulations.
• Participates in all aspects of the International Accreditation program to assist UHS attain and maintain international accreditation standards.
• Assists the Laboratory Director in the coordination of laboratory activities.
• Provides accurate, timely and cost-effective testing of patient samples to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease in compliance and harmony with the quality management system.
• Performs a variety of technical laboratory procedures according to policies and procedures of the UHS and UHS Laboratory to obtain patient’s specimens and to ensure specimen quality used to aid in the diagnosis.
• Receives patients and collects blood/other samples as per the laboratory policies.
• Packs /transports samples as per the test requirements.
• Receives & prepares laboratory samples to be send to analytical area.
• Separates samples, prepares & packs it for referral laboratory with all safety precautions.
• Follows laboratory policy for data retrieval, record keeping, specimen identification and reporting.
• Maintains positive working relationship with the lab staff, medical staff and hospital personnel.

Your Duties as Technologist

• Use positive interpersonal skills to educate/support lab customers and promote success of team members.
• Use clear and concise verbal and written communication with staff and the public.
• Act independently on accomplishing lab tasks and accepts responsibility of the adopted policy and procedures of the hospital and the laboratory.
• Share call duty and work different shifts as required.
• Comply with laboratory safety procedures.
• Complete education necessary to maintain MOH licensure or certification for the job annual renewal.
• Work and liaise with consultant pathologist, Specialty Pathologist, Senior Technologists of other lab sections, nurses and medical staff to maintain the highest professional standards.
• Participate in training, CME and seminars.
• Retain all necessary registration/license requirements.
• Participate in internal orientation, mandatory, ongoing CME and education programs. Attend external conferences, workshops, seminars and courses that will enhance and maintain a current knowledge base
• Work any shift as per the duty roster of the Pathology and Laboratory Department when designated.

Requirements/Qualifications

Following are the requirements for the role of Laboratory Technologist (Emirati) at UHS:

• A Degree/Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT).
• Minimum experience of 2 years in Hospital Multidisciplinary clinical laboratory.
• Must have a valid UAE MOH License.

Skills & Abilities

• Able to work in all laboratory sections.
• Maintains laboratory equipment with high technical efforts and inventory for supplies and reagents and maintaining quality control and/or assurance records.
• Sets up and operates laboratory equipment in preparation for specimen examinations.
• Maintains a clean and sanitary work area in accordance with standard laboratory practice and procedures.
• Multi-Computer skills, and teaching abilities.
• Good Communication Skills.
• English Language.
• Has full knowledge in using LIS/HIS to be responsible for accurately completing records and reports and other statistical information for master files or database’s.
• Possesses adequate knowledge of instrumentation, theory, and application of new and existing tests.
