About the Role

Yas American Academy on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi is seeking an experienced Head of Inclusion to join the school for the academic year 2026/2027. Additionally, this senior leadership position involves coordinating and managing the inclusion department across both primary and secondary phases, including overseeing SEN teachers, learning support assistants, and inclusion assistants. Furthermore, the successful candidate will plan and deliver interventions, write and review IEPs, and work closely with external agencies to support students with additional needs. This is a key role within the school’s leadership team.

Key Responsibilities for Head of Inclusion at Yas American Academy Abu Dhabi

As Head of Inclusion, you will coordinate in-class support for targeted children and manage the development of timetables for inclusion services. Moreover, you will conduct regular analysis of data to inform planning and provision while observing children and disseminating appropriate strategies to teachers. In addition, you will deliver training to staff, arrange meetings with parents, and coordinate access arrangements for IGCSE, GCSE, and IB examinations. Furthermore, you will participate in performance management of SEN teachers and support staff, attend Aldar Head of Inclusion meetings, and maintain efficient control of the department’s resources budget. You will also offer targeted support in both primary and secondary phases including after-school sessions.

Requirements and Qualifications

The ideal candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or equivalent field with PGCE, along with an SEN qualification at Master’s level or external certification. Additionally, a minimum of six years of experience in SEN with previous experience leading SEN or Learning Support in a primary or secondary school is required. Moreover, candidates should demonstrate outstanding teaching and learning consistently graded very good or outstanding. Furthermore, experience working with students for whom English is not their first language and cultural sensitivity to community needs are essential.
