Additionally, this role focuses on teaching within the Center for English Proficiency and the English Bridge Program.
About the Role
The Assistant/Associate Professor of English at American University in Dubai will have primary teaching responsibilities in the Center for English Proficiency (CfEP), particularly within the English Bridge Program. Furthermore, this program supports undergraduate students in developing the academic English skills necessary for success in university coursework. Moreover, the successful candidate will contribute to curriculum development, program assessment, and student academic support within the School of Arts and Sciences.
Key Responsibilities for Assistant Associate Professor of English at American University in Dubai Dubai
- Deliver courses in ESL, English for Academic Purposes (EAP), and academic English to undergraduate students
- Develop and update course curricula, materials, and assessment tools for the English Bridge Program
- Maintain an active research agenda in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or English Language Teaching
- Support student academic advising and provide individual mentorship for language development
- Coordinate and participate in department meetings, program reviews, and accreditation activities
- Contribute to placement testing and student assessment processes
- Develop innovative teaching methodologies and incorporate technology-enhanced language learning
- Promote interdisciplinary collaboration and support content-area faculty in language-related initiatives
- Lead or support English language workshops, writing centers, and academic support programs
Requirements
- Ph.D. or Ed.D. in English, Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL), Applied Linguistics-ELT, or a closely related field from a Western accredited institution
- Demonstrated experience teaching ESL, English for Academic Purposes, or academic English to university-level students
- TEFL or CELTA certification is valued
- Excellent English written and oral communication skills
- Experience teaching diverse student populations in a multicultural environment
- Academic qualifications in assessment, curriculum design, or program administration are preferred
