The University of Strathclyde Business School UAE is offering two exceptional doctoral research positions through the MINDnet Marie Sklodowska-Curie programme based in Abu Dhabi. These positions focus on cutting-edge research in neuromorphic photonics and neurotechnologies within the Institute of Photonics. Furthermore, the successful candidates will join a dynamic international research network dedicated to advancing brain-inspired computing and optical neural technologies.

Key Responsibilities for MINDnet Marie Sklodowska

• Conduct original doctoral research in neuromorphic photonics, developing novel optical computing architectures inspired by biological neural networks and brain function.
• Collaborate with international research partners across the MINDnet consortium, contributing to joint publications and participating in network-wide training events.
• Present research findings at international conferences and workshops, while also contributing to the dissemination of results through peer-reviewed journal articles.
• Complete all requirements of the doctoral programme within the 36-month contract period, including coursework, secondments, and thesis preparation.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• A first-class or upper second-class honours degree in physics, electrical engineering, photonics, neuroscience, or a closely related discipline is required.
• Strong analytical and mathematical skills, with demonstrated experience in experimental or computational research methodologies relevant to photonics or neurotechnologies.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to effectively present complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences.
• A genuine passion for interdisciplinary research and willingness to undertake international secondments as part of the Marie Sklodowska-Curie programme requirements.

Experience Requirements

Candidates should hold or be close to completing a Masters degree in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline. In addition, prior research experience in photonics, optical systems, neural networks, or related fields is highly advantageous. Moreover, candidates who have participated in collaborative research projects or have experience working in international research environments will be particularly well suited for these positions.

Salary and Benefits

These doctoral positions offer a competitive monthly salary ranging from 8,000 AED to 18,000 AED, in line with Marie Sklodowska-Curie funding guidelines. Additionally, the positions include mobility and family allowances where applicable, along with comprehensive research training and travel support.
