Staff Nurse – Maternal Newborn
Responsibilities
- Provide care for moms and babies using the nursing process.
- Check patient and family needs with focused health assessments.
- Keep monitoring patients’ physical and emotional health.
- Include patients, families, and staff in care plans when needed.
- Team up with doctors and others to deliver care.
- Plan and prioritize care based on what each patient needs, tweaking plans as necessary.
- Set up patient transfers when required.
- Watch for small signs to catch health issues early.
- Write all patient details in the medical records, following hospital rules.
- Make sure supplies and equipment are ready for the unit.
- Help with office tasks when needed.
- Complete required training, like fire safety and infection control.
- Join team meetings, unit projects, and quality improvement efforts.
- Safely give narcotic and controlled drugs, following hospital policies.
- Do specific tasks like phototherapy, postnatal checkups, and newborn resuscitation.
Requirements
Education
Need a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (three years full-time) or a two-year Nursing Degree with registration as a Registered Nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, or Australia. UAE nationals don’t need experience or clinical training (must submit birth certificate and mother’s family book). Non-UAE graduates from UAE universities must complete six months of clinical training in an APS health facility after graduation.
Experience
At least 2–3 years of recent experience in maternal and newborn nursing is required.
Skills
- Strong skills in caring for moms and newborns.
- Ability to check the physical and emotional needs of patients and families.
- Good at planning and prioritizing patient care.
- Clear communication with patients and staff.
- Skilled in using equipment like radiant warmers and resuscitaires.
