About the Role

The Optometrist at Al Zahra Hospital Dubai will be responsible for conducting comprehensive eye examinations, diagnosing visual disorders, and providing appropriate optical and non-surgical treatment to patients across all age groups. Furthermore, the role involves working closely with the ophthalmology team to co-manage patients with complex eye conditions and provide pre- and post-operative assessments for surgical patients. Moreover, the Optometrist will play an important role in patient education, promoting eye health awareness, and ensuring the highest standards of optometric care in line with DHA guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive eye examinations including visual acuity, refraction, and binocular vision assessments.
• Diagnose and manage refractive errors, ocular diseases, and visual impairment in patients of all ages.
• Prescribe corrective lenses, contact lenses, and low vision aids as clinically appropriate.
• Perform pre-operative and post-operative assessments for patients undergoing ophthalmic surgery.
• Co-manage patients with glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and other chronic eye conditions.
• Utilise advanced diagnostic equipment including OCT, visual field analysers, and slit-lamp biomicroscopy.
• Maintain accurate patient records and clinical documentation in the electronic health record system.
• Educate patients on eye health, contact lens care, and the importance of regular eye examinations.
• Collaborate with ophthalmologists and allied health staff for integrated patient care pathways.
• Ensure full compliance with DHA clinical standards, AZHD policies, and infection control protocols.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Optometry from an internationally accredited institution.
• Valid DHA (Dubai Health Authority) Optometrist license or eligibility to obtain DHA licensure.
• Minimum 2–3 years of clinical optometry experience in a hospital, clinic, or optical retail setting.
• Proficiency in the use of diagnostic optometry equipment and electronic clinical documentation systems.
• Strong patient communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Fluency in English; Arabic or other language skills are an advantage in the UAE context.
