About the Role
The Lactation Consultant at Mediclinic Airport Road Hospital is responsible for coordinating, planning, and managing education related to breastfeeding and related services for patients and family members. Furthermore, this role involves developing standards of care guidelines for assisting breastfeeding mothers. Moreover, the successful candidate will assess patient breastfeeding progress and provide professional guidance throughout the maternity journey. In addition, this position supports the Baby Friendly Hospital initiative and community awareness programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement standards of care guidelines for assisting breastfeeding mothers
- Plan and coordinate patient and family member educational activities on lactation
- Develop and maintain current breastfeeding resource materials for educational purposes
- Assess patient breastfeeding progress and provide professional guidance and support
- Lead community initiatives aimed at raising awareness about breastfeeding education
- Maintain and update Key Performance Indicators for the Baby Friendly Hospital initiative
- Coordinate prenatal and postnatal lactation support services effectively
- Support multidisciplinary collaboration between nursing and medical teams
- Promote evidence-based breastfeeding practices across the hospital
- Contribute to continuous improvement of maternal and newborn care standards
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or Midwifery from a recognised Nursing Institute
- IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) certification is essential
- A postgraduate qualification in Midwifery is an advantage
- At least 2 years of experience in a related nursing field
- Strong knowledge of ante-partum, intra-partum, and postpartum healthcare
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with Arabic as an advantage
- Facilitation skills and understanding of adult learning principles
