About the Role
The Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) Technician at SSMC plays a crucial role in ensuring patients receive safe and effective treatment using hyperbaric oxygen therapy machines. Furthermore, the role involves preparing and educating patients, operating and monitoring hyperbaric chambers, and maintaining accurate treatment records. Moreover, the successful candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure comprehensive patient care and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, educate, and orient patients for HBOT treatments ensuring their safety and comfort during sessions
- Operate and monitor hyperbaric oxygen therapy chambers, controlling pressure and ensuring safe treatment delivery
- Maintain accurate patient records including treatment documentation and photo uploading
- Manage and track supplies such as wipes, towels, and perform regular inventory checks
- Perform routine maintenance tasks including cleaning, disinfecting the chamber, and troubleshooting issues
- Continuously monitor patients and the chamber environment for signs of distress or equipment malfunction
- Assess patients before, during, and after treatments to identify potential issues or concerns
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams regarding treatments and procedures
- Answer client questions, provide general information, and assist with scheduling appointments
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in a healthcare-related field preferred
- Completion of an approved Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) Safety course, either pre- or post-hire
- Current Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT) or Certified Hyperbaric Specialist (CHS) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred
- Experience assisting with or performing hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatments and chamber operations
- Knowledge of hyperbaric chamber safety procedures, emergency protocols, and infection control standards
- Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and focus on patient safety
