Looking for Head of Compliance and Risk jobs in Derby? University of Derby is currently hiring a Head of Compliance and Risk within its Estates Department. Additionally, this is a permanent, full-time hybrid role based at the Kedleston Road campus, reporting to the Head of Group Sustainability, Health, Safety and Compliance.

About the Role

The Head of Compliance and Risk provides strategic and operational leadership for Estates compliance and risk management, ensuring statutory, legislative, and corporate requirements are met across the University estate. Furthermore, the role leads the development of compliance and risk strategy, embeds assurance and audit frameworks, and supports institutional governance. Moreover, you will act as the senior subject matter expert for Estates compliance, advising on emerging risks and regulatory change while managing a specialist team.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the formulation of Compliance and Risk strategy for the University Estates department
• Provide a comprehensive specialist advisory service for statutory and legislative compliance
• Design and implement strategic compliance and risk reporting frameworks for the Executive Board
• Lead the development of a proactive compliance culture moving from reactive to preventative risk management
• Manage asbestos and radon compliance across the University including line management responsibilities
• Lead assurance of statutory Building Engineering Services compliance across all systems
• Provide operational leadership for contractor management including permits to work
• Lead the Safe Place University Health, Safety and Wellbeing Committee
• Engage externally across industry and professional bodies to identify best practice
• Support institutional governance through risk and compliance reporting to committees

Requirements

• Degree in a relevant subject area or equivalent qualification and professional experience
• Demonstrable experience of risk management and business continuity
• Experience engaging and influencing at senior level across an organisation
• Comprehensive knowledge of property-related statutory and legislative obligations
• Experience of contractor management and permit-to-work systems
• Specialist auditing expertise in compliance and risk management systems
• Proven track record of managing high-performing teams
