The VP Business Development at Majid Al Curtain will be responsible for developing and controlling the Implementation of a business development strategy ensuring the targeted growth of the business. The role holder is also responsible for initiating, leading and reviewing studies of key growth areas.

Duties of VP Business Development

Strategic Planning

  • Develop and control the implementation of expansion, remodeling, leasing, procurement and asset management strategies, continuously looking into cost efficiency and guaranteeing set quality standards, while minimize business disruption.
  • Provide inputs for the development of the commercialization strategy for shopping malls when required.
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of established standards for property management.
  • Direct strategic initiatives and ensure efficient implementation of related initiatives across all countries.

Expansion Investigation

  • Manage the examination of key growth markets for new business development opportunities and provide leads and inputs to the development team.
  • Develop and review the investigations for potential new countries and the plan to realize the projects considering all administrative and regulation aspects.
  • Identify new development schemes in order to make the expansion feasible and efficient.
  • Support the presentation of the market and feasibility studies for the Senior Vice President Development and Government Affairs.
  • Provide inputs for the comparative study that can contribute to the efficiency of the assets in respect to the commercial concept.
  • Ensure the return of investment for developed projects by taking all pre-emptive measures based on best practices and take corrective measures if necessary.
  • Support M&A projects where relevant.

Project Management

  • Oversee and ensure timely and proper execution of projects in line with set plans and budget.
  • Keep abreast of local/regional events which may likely impact the project success.

Real Estate, Property & Asset Management

  • Provide inputs for land and asset acquisitions suitable for retail projects when required.
  • Approve agreements based on negotiations for land and supplies procurement and provide inputs on the best solutions when required.
  • Ensure established contracts and agreements are competitive and minimize MAF Retail’s risk exposure.
  • Ensure consistency of format and assets deployment (format playbook, asset books).
  • Ensure proactive maintenance of all the real estate facilities.

Relationship Management

  • Approve selected services providers, building companies and contractors, based on the set policies and procedures while assuring consideration planned budgets and timings.
  • Support all government affairs meetings with high level authorities to ensure support in MAF Retail business activities when required.
  • Proactively maintain strong business relationships with key internal / external stakeholders to leverage business opportunities.
  • Ensure regular coordination and communication with relevant stakeholders in MAF Holding and other OpCos.

Human Capital Responsibilities

  • Build strong talent and capabilities, ensure the implementation of the performance management process.
  • Provide mentorship for the purpose of developing a continuous talent pipeline for key roles.
  • Identify training needs and coordinate with the HC department to ensure facilitation of training requirements.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of on the job-training.
  • Ensure constant availability of the required competent staff to support the organization in meeting all its responsibilities, plans, and objectives.
  • Provide inputs while developing MAF Retail’s corporate policies and relevant procedures, and monitor the implementation.

Requirements for VP Business Development

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or Commerce or equivalent.
  • MBA is preferred.
  • 12+ years of experience in a managerial role, 5+ years in retail business development.
