The Vice President Strategy Grocery Retail at Majid Al Futtaim will be responsible for supporting the CSO in the development of portfolio and business strategy in alignment with MAFH strategy, building strategic partnership and alliances, coordinating M&A activities in alignment with Group M&A team across MAFR in-scope geographies. The role holder is responsible for supporting the CSO and REC in building the strategic path of growth and profitability, designing corporate operating model, identifying sources of opportunities within the markets and the business. The role holder is responsible for updating the REC on the strategic projects and showing a clear vision to achieve the growth plans.

Duties of Vice President Strategy

Portfolio and Corporate Strategy:

  • Support CSO in articulating the company’s mission and vision in a clear way that can speak to customers and employees at all levels.
  • Co-create actionable goals that make it possible to turn that mission into tangible results, define key business areas and markets, guide the identification of priorities within the portfolio.
  • Support sales via online and offline partnerships and alliances, accelerate business growth also through JVs and M&A.
  • Build industry and competitive knowledge; have a strong understanding of global as well as industry specific trends related to MAFR and focus industries/ geographies.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders in developing their annual operating plans and budgets in alignment with the portfolio and corporate strategy.
  • Support the development of country strategies, specific value creation plans such as strategy execution and emerging business model strategies.
  • Actively participate in content development and organization of corporate summits and other group wide strategy workshops.
  • Hold Strategic meetings and discussion with the Board and Holding teams.
  • Must be able to multitask with research projects, data analysis, and coordination with the executive team.

Transformation

  • Review and enable the strategy execution and Transformation discussions with the functions and form articulate view on overall strategy and initiatives within the markets, acting as a strategy execution coordinator and supervisor.
  • Lead the execution of strategic partnerships, alliances, JVs and M&A operations together with market and MAFH teams.
  • Assist the CSO in developing memos / communication materials for the Executive Committee.

Business Development

  • Cascade and manage the development of expansion strategies (geographic or adjacency expansion e.g. digital services) and to the securing of strategic partnerships for the core and adjacent businesses.
  • Collaborate with the Digital function for sourcing of new digital investments.
  • Work closely with the CSO to plan, identify, create, lead, negotiate and implement effective business development agreements/ partnerships that drive value across MAFR.
  • Guide the cross-functional teams to structure and execute business initiatives and develop work plans.

Investment Management

  • Review with the CSO the evaluation of potential investment opportunities, including driving the due diligence process while coordinating with the various internal and external stakeholders.
  • Perform company, industry, market and competitor research, due diligence and analyses to inform the opportunity assessment and valuation.
  • Monitor investments post-acquisition to ensure proper integration, where applicable, and perform specific projects in collaboration with their senior management teams, as necessary.

Human Capital Responsibilities

  • Ensure the implementation of the performance management process.
  • Provide mentorship for the purpose of developing a continuous talent pipeline for key role.
  • Identify training needs and coordinate with the HC department to ensure facilitation of training requirements.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of on the job-training.
  • Ensure constant availability of the required competent staff to support the organization in meeting all its responsibilities, plans, and objectives.
  • Provide inputs while developing MAF Retail’s corporate policies and relevant procedures, and monitor the implementation.

Eligibility Requirements

The eligibility requirements for role a Vice President Strategy are as under:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline from a highly reputable university with a strong academic record.
  • 10+ years of experience in Private Equity, Investment Banking, Tier-1 Management Consulting, or Corporate Development in relevant industries.
  • Experience within the family business within the region and real estate industries with a focus on emerging trends such as eCommerce, digital, etc.

Skills Desired

  • Strong analytical skills, fluency in performing and driving rigorous quantitative analyses, and experience with financial/ accounting and key operational metrics.
  • Hardworking, energetic, charismatic, and a self-starter eager to drive work independently, while able to effectively work with multi-functional teams.
  • High aptitude to quickly manage new teams and large-scale projects and work well under pressure with appropriate attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously with no supervision with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to build credibility with business partners to gain support for analysis and recommendations and to collaborate with cross-functional partners.
