Job Overview of a Lab Technician

A Lab Technician is responsible for supporting the academic staff and students in the Department of Architecture and Design and operating FAID fab lab equipment.

Responsibilities of a Lab Technician

• Supervising students working in the Fab lab Workshop and ensuring the workshop health & safety policy is adhered to at all times.
• Aiding students with the utilization of Design Fab and giving advice to students on digital files and materials.
• Cleaning and maintaining the 3D printers and laser cutters and keeping a clean and tidy working environment.
• Generally supporting the workshop management. Collaborating with the FAID team in the smooth running and on-going successful development of the workshop.
• Engaging in departmental meetings, activities, and events.

What You Will Do

• Acquire skills and develop good practice for creating appropriate architectural models using equipment and materials.
• Assist with the procurement of consumables and budget drafting.
• Collaborate and assist in the workshop facilities.
• Deliver training in terms of using equipment, selecting materials, preparing digital files and Health & Safety policy to both students and staff.
• Assist with the space planning, asset management, and Health & Safety in the fab lab and design studios used by students.

Eligibility Criteria

• Several years of practice experience in a related field.
• A Highschool Diploma.
• College graduate in technical related discipline, better if majoring in Architecture / Interior Design or relative subjects or with any other technical formation. (Desirable)

Knowledge and Skills

• Good knowledge and skills of standard office software packages.
• Knowledge in 3D modeling, digital fabrication, and skills of using relative such as ADOBE bundle, Autodesk packages, McNeel Rhinoceros 5 or 6, and Grasshopper3D.
• Good and comprehensive English skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
• Ability to understand technical/architectonic drawings and schemes.
