Job Description of a Staff Nurse

This position is responsible for providing general and specialized direct and indirect patient care through the application of evidence-based nursing procedures and practices to patients of all ages on the assigned nursing units. This position is also responsible for demonstrating competency in the behavioral, growth, development and psychosocial needs of patients being treated.

Responsibilities of a Staff Nurse

  • Completes timely patient admission and ongoing assessments, plans and updates plan of care based on individual patient needs.
  • Administers prescribed medications in accordance with approved policies and protocols, utilizing barcode scanning.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding patient and family information by promoting professional interdisciplinary communication.
  • Leads the caregiver team in the delivery of patient care collaborating with other disciplines to facilitate achievement of planned and expected outcomes.
  • Work with individuals of other professions to maintain a climate of mutual respect and shared values.
  • Reports needed changes in practice supported by evidence.

Your Duties in the Role

  • Provide direct care and evaluates outcomes, incorporating principles of family centered care.
  • Monitor and document patients’ condition and effectiveness of care and intervention.
  • Assess educational needs of patients and significant others considering cultural needs and other special concerns.
  • Provide teaching and educational material to the patient and/or significant as appropriate.
  • Validate and document patient and family understand of teaching.
  • Report errors and near-misses.
  • Responsible for completing charge capture education and in-service training for their Institute within CCAD.
  • Lead the caregiver team in the delivery of patient care collaborating with other disciplines to facilitate achievement of planned and expected outcomes.
  • Communicate with patients, families, visitors and vendors in a courteous, helpful manner, endeavoring to resolve issues at the unit/department level.

Qualification & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum of 2 years post-graduate experience in an Acute care setting.
  • Valid and current national licensed.
  • BLS from AHA or an equivalent organization or must obtain within 3 months of employment.
  • ACLS, PALS relevant to area of specialty from AHA or an equivalent organization, or must obtain within 6 months of employment.

Skills

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Experience with electronic medical record is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to speak and write in Arabic is preferred.
