Role of Specialist Psychiatrist

Diagnose and treat mental / psychiatric illnesses. Prescribe medication according to patient’s needs and extent of behavioral, emotional, cognitive, social and developmental disorder.

Duties of Specialist Psychiatrist

• Study emotional, mental, personality and behavioral disorders.
• Discuss symptoms with patients to make a diagnosis.
• Prescribe medicines to correct chemical imbalances of the patient’s brain.
• Using psychotherapeutic procedures and medication, treat the patients.
• Monitor the effects of medications on patients. Adjusting treatment when necessary.
• Consult with the patient’s Primary Care Physician, Nurses or other health care providers.
• Maintain clinical records of patients, including the treatment method and medication used.
• Stay updated with professional knowledge and methodologies/ medications.
• Attend educational conferences and maintain professional networks.

Education & Experience

• Doctor of medicine with specialization in Psychiatry.
• 2-3 years clinical experience post residency.

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of medical ethics.
• Knowledge of psychiatrist medicines.
