Responsibilities of Specialist Critical Care

  • Delivering high-quality, evidence-based, and patient-centered care.
  • Be an example of clinical excellence within the Division and contribute to the supervision and training of junior medical staff.
  • Under the supervision of the Consultant Physician, diagnoses and treats patients according to established standards of best practice for the post holder’s specialty.
  • Assists the Consultant Physician in supervising the activities of junior medical staff. Jointly assumes responsibility for the care they provide.
  • Complies with all hospital polices regarding admissions, consultations, daily patient care, surgical procedures, discharge protocols, outpatient and follow up practices.
  • Practices appropriate utilization of the organization’s resources.
  • Leads ward rounds; reassesses both inpatients and outpatients on a regular basis, in line with established best practice.
  • Accurately documents all relevant clinical information in a clear and timely fashion in accordance with established procedures.
  • Regularly reviews results of all investigations and modifies treatment as required.
  • Liaises with other medical specialties and support services for additional input as required.
  • Actively participates in multi-disciplinary meetings to help plan effective, safe and holistic care for individual patients.
  • Ensures preparation of patients for all procedures including obtaining informed consent.
  • Accepts clinically appropriate referrals from the Emergency Department, primary care, other departments, specialty clinics, walk in patients, and patients referred from other hospitals.
  • Participates in and supports the Consultant Physician in ensuring the provision of out of hours on call) coverage on a rotational basis including evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays as required.
  • Communicates clinical information to patients and the patient’s family and friends (with consent of the patient) in a timely manner.
  • Maintains a good working relationship with members of staff and promotes collaboration and a team-based approach to patient care.
  • Performs other clinical responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

Following are the requirements for the role of Specialist Physician – Critical Care at SEHA:

  • Qualifications from Tier 1 OR Qualifications from Tier 2 OR Tier 3.
  • Tier 1: No additional experience required post board certification.
  • Tier 2: NLT 2 years of clinical experience post qualification in internationally accredited institute.
  • No additional experience required post board certification.
  • For UAE Nationals + Non UAE Nationals enrolled in HAAD accredited residency programs: No experience required post board certification.
  • Tier 3: NLT 3 years clinical experience as Specialist post qualification in internationally accredited institute.
