Canadian Specialist Hospital is currently accepting applications for the job of Specialist General Surgeon in Dubai. The hospital announced this career opportunity on December 15, 2023. This role person is responsible for attending ambulatory and hospitalized surgical patients including cases of all degrees of complexity, which are within the area of competence and expertise.

Duties as Specialist General Surgeon

• Providing surgical care of a specialized nature in accordance with the delineation privileges as approved by the credential committee.
• Works to meet established medical, ethical and legal rules in the field of general surgery and practicing state-of-the-art.
• Day-to-day work including management and peer review.
• Monitoring and evaluation of the quality and appropriateness of patient care provided by all physicians within the clinical privileges.
• Informs HOD of unusual problems or actions taken regarding unusual cases.
• Performs all management functions and duties of a general surgeon.
• Provides expert medical care for ambulatory and hospitalized patients, including pre- and post-operative cases and such surgical procedures as are within incumbent’s competence.
• Performs professional duties at out-patients.
• Provides consultation services to physicians and other surgeons and specialists.
• Assumes after-hours responsibilities for the care of assigned surgical cases and makes daily rounds for those hospitalized.
• Orders diagnostic laboratory studies and X-ray examinations, determining the diagnosis and prescribing applicable therapy.
• Strictly observes organization’s medical regulations and policies especially those related to infection control, patient safety, patient assessment and patient care.
• Monitors clinical and other established indicators to ensure ongoing quality assurance.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the role of Specialist General Surgeon, following qualifications and experience is a must:

• Graduation from an approved medical school plus one year of internship and three years of residency.
• Certification by the American Board of Surgery or Member of the Royal College of Surgeons (or its equivalent).
• At least 10+ years of practice limited to surgery since certification.

Desired Skills & Knowledge

• Fluent in English to communicate with different nationalities.
• Basic knowledge of medical Arabic is desirable.
• Must have a thorough knowledge of medical ethics with particular reference to the obligation to maintain the confidentiality of his work.
