Senior Specialist Instruction Higher Colleges of Technology

Senior Specialist Instruction at Higher Colleges of Technology is responsible for supporting in the development, coordination and delivery of professional development programmers and activities for all HCT faculty in the area of instruction. He /she ensures that all trainees (faculty) are receiving the correct training, experience and mentorship to adequately teach students and meet the needs of HCT.

Responsibilities of Senior Specialist Instruction

• Design professional development content and course guides related to education technologies.
• Coach faculty on using education technologies to enhance the learning experience of students.
• This includes coaching faculty on the use of Blackboard and mobile devices in an education environment. Creation of online assessments, design of online courses and selection of appropriate education technologies to deliver courses, instructional design, etc.
• Act as a moderator and facilitator for online training courses, contributing in discussion boards. Communicating with participants, answering queries, and marking assessments.
• Work closely with faculty to identify and support in the development of new strategies for embedding learning technologies.
• Act as a contact point for staff needing advice and support on all matters related to teaching with technology, and provide guidance to faculty on developing course content which is compatible with education technologies.
• Coordinate with Specialist PD coordinator to collect data/information on faculty regarding areas they need or would like to improve.
• Develop progress reports on the status of professional development programmers as well as overall professional development statistics.
• Keep abreast of emerging technologies as well as innovative and best practices in teaching with technology (e.g., use of Tablets in the classroom, developing flexible learning environments).

Job Requirements

The requirements for the job role of Senior Specialist Instruction are as under:

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field is required e.g. Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Educational Technologies, Education, Applied Learning.
• Full English proficiency required.
• Intermediate computer literacy is required e.g. MS Office, Blackboard, PD Portal.
• Minimum of four years of relevant work experience in Instruction with a focus on instructional pedagogy.
