Purpose of A Senior Pharmacist
Provides leadership role for staff in the safe and efficient distribution of medications in line with relevant laws, rules, regulations and standards of pharmaceutical care.
Job Duties of A Senior Pharmacist
- Actively participates in the departmental quality improvement program.
- Participates in departmental motivational program to enhance patient / customer relations.
- Reviews physician’s orders & prescriptions to ensure appropriateness of drug therapy.
- Inputs physician’s medication orders into Pharmacy Patient Medication Profile and maintains this profile and related records.
- Monitors patient medication profile in order to prevent drug interactions, allergic and adverse drug reactions.
- Provides drug information & communicates with prescribes, nurses and other staff regarding drug therapy or safe drug handling.
- Provides leadership qualities and proper scheduling and daily staffing.
- Transcribes physician’s telephoned orders onto physician’s order sheet for counter sign by the physician.
- Maintains adequate stock levels of controlled medications.
- Maintains proper records of all scheduled medications as per DHA.
- Controlled drug records are kept up to date for DHA inspections.
- Follow the DHA rules and regulations to keep the American hospital Dubai maintain the best standard of care.
- Performs patient teaching functions on appropriate use of medications.
- Monitors and oversees that the Pharmacy is kept in a neat, clean and orderly fashion.
- Performs quality control checks and proper inventory & expiry control of OP pharmacy stock and OP clinics floor stocks in accordance with departmental procedures.
- Prepares and supervises the preparation of extemporaneously compounded medications, including products requiring aseptic techniques.
- Conducts orientation, training & educational programs of new OP staff.
- Gathers and analyses data for selected drug utilization reviews.
- Performs all duties in a professional, effective and confidential manner.
Qualification & Experience
- Baccalaureate (Bachelors) degree in pharmacy or equivalent.
- At least 5 years experience in pharmacy and at least 2 years in Senior Pharmacist role in Hospital setting.
License & Registration
- Current license or registration to practice pharmacy.
- Current active DHA registration.
