Responsibilities of Ophthalmology Technician

• Managing eye movement disorders, and their sensory consequences.
• Assessing babies and small children for defects of vision including children with functional needs.
• Treating adults with double vision associated with other conditions such as diabetes, thyroid disorders, neurological conditions e.g. multiple sclerosis
• Diagnosing and monitoring all types of Amblyopia and giving treatments to improve vision.
• Assessing patients before and after surgery for cataracts and visually impaired patients for aids.
• Conducting diagnostic and imaging techniques to determine the effects and progression of eye disease.
• Developing rehabilitation for impaired vision to maximize an patient’s remaining vision.
• Providing information to patients, families and the community about eye conditions and their effects to train, supervise and guide optometrists in difficult cases.
• Neuro-ophthalmology providing treatment of neurologically-based eye disorders.
• Perform diagnostic tests or measurements like motor testing, visual acuity testing.
• Use diagnostic and therapeutic instruments like synoptophore, prisms.
• Use of diagnostic instruments like Catford Visual Acuity Drum, Hess chart(mainly for the muscle palsy cases) and Stereopsis.
• Provide non-surgical interventions, including corrective lenses, patches, orthoptic exercises or stereograms, diploscope, Remy separator to treat conditions like strabismus, nystagmus, heterophoria, and convergence, divergence insufficiency and other visual disorders.

Qualifications & Experience

Following is the eligibility criteria for the role of Senior Ophthalmology Technician at Dubai Health:

• Master’s degree with 2 years experience.
• Bachelors degree with 5 years experience.
• Higher Diploma(3 years) with more than 10 years experience.
