GEMS Education are looking for an outstanding Science Head to join GEMS Winchester Private School in Fujairah in February 2024. Successful applicant will be a fully qualified teacher of Physics, with exceptional subject knowledge and experience in leading the Science department. This job was made available by the school on 15 December 2023 , and they’re open to applications.
Responsibilities of Science Head
- Lead strategic direction and development of the Science department, including but not limited to setting the vision, analysing data, improvement planning, target setting and ongoing self evaluation.
- Create a culture of high performance.
- Develop an outstanding teaching and learning culture ensuring outstanding achievement for all.
- Lead on curriculum development ensuring outstanding provision for all, including an enhanced extra and co curricular programme.
- Lead and manage staff, including but not limited to overseeing staffing, recruitment, performance appraisal and professional development.
- Efficient and effective deployment of staff and resources, including but not limited to budget planning, timetable overview and talent acquisition.
- Lead on the marketing of the department to promote the school, raise the profile of the subject and increase student numbers.
- Communicate effectively and proactively with all stakeholders.
- Play a lead role in developing key policies and practices that support the Academy’s overall aims, vision and values.
- Attend all staff briefings.
- Share responsibility for representing the Department at cross-curricular committees e.g. EAL link.
- Empower and provide strategic direction to the discreet Heads of Subjects (Physics /Chemistry/ Biology).
- Other duties which may be reasonably assigned by the Principal or Head of School.
Job Requirements
The requirements for the job role of Head Science are as under:
- You must hold a Bachelor of Science in Physics + PGCE or QTS. (Distance or open university degrees are not accepted).
- Minimum 2 years experience in similar role.
- Experience of the iGCSE, AS, and A Level curriculum is essential.

- Excellent team player both within the department and across phases.
- Excellent IT and interpersonal communication skills to work closely with students and parents.
- Good command of English.
- Excellent communication skills able to build relationships with students and colleagues and contribute to wider school life.
