Job Purpose of A Radiographer

  • Responsible for performing all radiographic procedures and examinations in line with MHC and DOH policies, procedures, guidelines and standards, to obtain the most effective identification and visual presentation of the patient’s anatomic structures and abnormalities.
  • The incumbent is also responsible for operating and monitoring the radiographic equipment to ensure the accurate capturing and optimal quality of patients’ images and results.

Job Duties of A Radiographer

  • Prepares patients for radiographic procedures by accurately assessing their needs adhering to the physicians’ instruction and ensures patients’ safety prior, during and post radiographic procedure.
  • Consults with Physicians regarding patient’s medical history and the selection of appropriate radiographic procedures and equipment required for proper diagnosis.
  • Ensures that the imaging examination rooms are clean and equipped with appropriate supplies required for each patient.
  • Communicates with patients regarding the radiographic procedures, equipment and examination to ensure understanding and cooperation.
  • Reviews and verifies the patient’s details entered in the Radiology information system (RIS) / picture archiving and communication system (PACS) system prior to the procedure to ensure accuracy in the details.
  • Performs radiographic procedures and adjusts the imaging systems and equipment including but not limited to ultrasound scanners and X-ray equipment such as CR, DR, conventional x-ray, fluoroscopy, C-Arm and mobile x-ray machines to obtain the most effective identification and presentation of anatomic structures and abnormalities.
  • Operates computer and radiographic equipment for image production and documentation of images and performs quality control measures for the purpose of ensuring optimal quality images.
  • Completes the appropriate radiographic examinations in the RIS/PACS and ensures the capturing of patients’ images and results accurately.
  • Prepares the patients’ radiographic results and images (soft and hard versions) for interpretation by radiologist and physicians.

What You Will Do More?

  • Troubleshoots problems related to image quality and reports unresolved problems or issues to the relevant technical team.
  • Monitors the radiographic equipment used as well as the RIS/PICS operations and reports any faults and malfunctions immediately to the line manager.
  • Records all rejected radiographic images, patient radiation doses, radiographer name and other required information on the RIS/PACS.
  • Ensures educational and training programs are provided to Radiography caregivers regarding equipment usage, new radiography protocols and patient safety.
  • Liaises with the Diagnostic Imaging team and relevant clinical caregivers to check the suitability of the radiographic equipment used and co-ordinates with the respective vendors for any maintenance required.
  • Develops and maintains radiographic records and reports in an accurate and timely manner that reflect specific information and services provided to the patient.

Who Can Apply?

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in a Radiography, Radiology Technology or Medical/Diagnostic Imaging program.

OR

  • Diploma in Radiology.

OR

  • Associate degree in Radiography program.

Experience

  • Completion of specialty qualification as per the recognized specialty certificate (Health Authority Abu Dhabi guidelines).
  • Preferably experienced in a JCIA facility.

Certification and Licensure

  • DOH/DHA Medical License.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Preferably ACLS, PALS relevant to area of specialty.

Skills Desired

  • Knowledge of radiographic procedures and current best practices.
  • Strong understanding of radiography relevant regulations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate and relay messages to patients in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • Practical knowledge in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
