The Preconstruction Manager at Abu Dhabi Prots will manage projects from project initiation stage (Gate 1) through to full business case approval (Gate 3). The preconstruction manager shall maintain the management of design and engineering consultants after Gate 3 as required.

Duties of Preconstruction Manager

  • Responsible for all activities required to complete the job purpose.

  • The position shall be able to independently identify, plan and lead initiatives and execute agreed plans and communicate positively and enthusiastically with all parties as required.
  • They shall maintain a professional approach to their work and be able to collaborate well and maintain productive and respectful relationships with others.
  • Management of cluster new projects pipeline.
  • Communicating programme related information to non-technical stakeholders, including clusters and potential customers.
  • Preparation of reports and presentations to senior management on the performance of the department.
  • Preconstruction project organization and delivery strategy.
  • Design and engineering work packaging and procurement strategy.
  • Preparing project plans and schedules, such as project schedule and cost plans, Stakeholder management plans, Communication plans, Risk management plans.
  • Managing the procurement of design, engineering, and specialist consultants and SI contractors as required.
  • Managing the development of preconceptual engineering schemes for potential future projects.
  • Preparation of technical tender documentation.
  • Identifying key lessons during the preconstruction phase for each project and update key documents across the entire portfolio, including Policies and procedures and processes, Specifications and technical requirements.
  • Schedule and cost estimation and contingency planning.
  • Risk profiles and associated treatment measures.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with clusters and consultants.
  • Supporting the development and continuous improvement of departmental working practices.
  • Identifying and supporting improvement initiatives.

Eligibility Requirements

The eligibility requirements for role of a Preconstruction Manager are as under:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant engineering field
  • Master’s degree in relevant engineering field is advantageous.
  • Professional Certifications are advantageous.
  • Minimum 15 years in the Pre-Construction and Design in the Ports and Maritime industry.
  • Minimum 5 years in a pre-construction or design management position
  • Previous experience in ports and marine projects with major ports and terminal developers such as AMP Terminals, Hutchinson Ports, Terminal Investment Limited (TIL), DP World etc. or,
  • Previous experience in leading design and preconstruction workflows in ports and maritime portfolios on behalf of Developers, PMCM Companies, EPC Contractors, etc.

Skills & Knowledge Desired

  • Is a capable and competent communicator able to engage with business partners, supply chain, senior management, etc. providing updates, briefs and facilitating the decision-making process.
  • Has a fundamental understanding of part planning and key drivers and parameters of port layout optimization.
  • Fluency in English language is required.
  • Arabic, French, Portuguese as a secondary language is preferred.
