Postdoctoral Research Associate University of Sharjah

The Research Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences (RIHSS) is seeking to recruit Postdoctoral Research Associate to work across the communication research groups located in the RIHSS. The position will require multi method data driven (qualitative and quantitative) expertise given that the responsibilities will be working with a diverse, both substantively and methodologically, set of research groups.

Duties of Postdoctoral Research Associate

• Developing and designing research protocols.
• Guiding research assistants and students in the research groups.
• Collecting information on digital and legacy media in the Arab region.
• Conducting a literature review of relevant topics, including algorithmic media, data journalism, social media, audience analysis, health communication, and strategic communication.
• Collecting, preparing, and analyzing data using quantitative and qualitative software.
• Contributing to grant proposals.
• Presenting in various seminar series and scientific conferences.
• Self motivated, ability to work independently and collaboratively, high level of integrity.
• Collaborating with research group members and supporting them in their ongoing projects and articles.

Job Requirements of Postdoctoral Research Associate

• Educational certificate in Communication Studies or related field is required by the starting date of the position.
• Minimum 2 year experience in similar role.
• Experience teaching in media and communication studies.
• Prior experience mentoring experience with students from varying cultural backgrounds.
• Relevant good record of publications and research experience.

Skills & Knowledge Desired

• Priority will be given to candidates whose research interests focus on the Arab or MENA region.
• Scopus and/or Web of Science index publications.​
• Arabic language proficiency is desirable.
• A good record of publication in top journals (Scopus indexed Q1, Q2).
• Expertise in both quantitative and qualitative analysis including competence with relevant software packages (SPSS, NVIVO, PLS, etc).
• The ability to write reports in accurate and excellent English.
