Purpose of A Occupational Therapist

• Responsible to provide specialist occupational therapy interventions to adult and pediatric patients within the chronic specialist rehabilitation setting.
• Manage a caseload of patients with complex needs, using evidence based and client centered principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.
• Undertake the duties of an occupational therapist as defined by the Ministry of Health.

Duties of A Occupational Therapist

• To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of own work and to ensure a high standard of clinical care for patients under own care and support other team members to do likewise.
• To undertake a comprehensive, highly specialist physiotherapy assessment of patients including those with the most complex presentation, using advanced investigative and analytical skills.
• To select appropriate treatment techniques, this may include improving independence in ADLs, provide the necessary assistive devices, conducting seating assessments etc.
• To use advanced clinical reasoning and a wide range of treatment skills and options to formulate individual management and specialist treatment plans, in agreement with the patient where appropriate.
• To review and evaluate patient’s condition at each physiotherapy session.
• To amend the treatment program as necessary to achieve planned objectives.
• To work with members of the multi-disciplinary team, to ensure optimal outcomes for the patient.
• To consolidate and maintain highly specialist skills in relation to assessment and treatment of specialty area.
• To provide advice, teaching and instruction to patient, relatives and carers regarding their medical management and care needs to ensure a consistent approach to patient care, whilst promoting understanding of the aims of Occupational Therapy.
• To communicate effectively with patients and carers, whilst addressing cultural, religious and language barriers
• To maximize rehabilitation potential, to ensure understanding of condition and address anxieties and concerns.
• Work as a flexible member of the rehab team, communicating effectively with others.

Qualification & Experience

• Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
• 2 years of clinical experience.
• Basic computer knowledge.
• Valid MOH/DOH or DHA license.
