Medical Translator Amana Healthcare Abu Dhabi

A Medical Translator at Amana Healthcare (Mubadala Health) is responsible for converting written health, patient and family education information content from source language to target language while ensuring that the translated version is as accurate as the source language text. This role is also responsible for assisting in proofreading technical medico-legal documents. The Incumbent will perform a variety of interpretation, translation and medical escort services to assist non – English speaking residents and their families.

Responsibilities of Medical Translator

Translation and Interpretation

  • Translate, edit and proofread health, patient, and family education information content from English into Arabic and vice versa.
  • Edit and proof-read content translated by Receptionists as required.
  • Recommend and work thoroughly and systematically by utilizing sources of information and other resources at his/her disposal.
  • Perform a variety of interpretation and translation services to assist non-English speaking residents and their families.
  • Ask questions for the resident and family and making sure that they understand everything that is being discussed.
  • Assist the non-English speaking residents and family with a cross-cultural orientation to understand the nuances of medical care systems.
  • Provide verbal and written communication between healthcare providers, clinical staff and residents, family and visitors.
  • Articulate and document information accurately to convey resident and family’s questions, concerns and ensure that messages are consistent with risk management directives.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work.
  • Participate in on-call coverage to provide interpretation/translation services during non-business hours and business hours as assigned.
  • Executing administration related activities in the ward.
  • Ensuring smooth flow of information within the department by sorting and distributing mail while maintaining confidentiality.

Customer Service

  • Answer telephone calls, screen calls, and transfer calls to the appropriate parties and also taking down requests for appointments.
  • Provide assistance for activities like coordination between departments and correspondence.
  • Respond to verbal and written inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate customer focus when interacting with internal or external customers of the facility.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all matters related to resident care and issues involving non-English speaking resident, families, escorts.
  • Provide escort services and related information services to residents and families as required; walking or directing residents and their entourages through the system as required.
  • Assume the role of a brand ambassador for the facility and promoting a customer-focused philosophy in dealing with any stakeholders.
  • Maintain positive and effective working relationships within the facility.
  • Performing any other duties as may be assigned relevant to the basic responsibilities of the role.

Occupational Safety & Health (OSH)

  •  Take reasonable care of their own safety and health, and of others that might be affected by their acts or omissions at work.
  • Comply with reasonable OSH instructions and safe working procedures, familiarize themselves, understand, co-operate and comply with their employer OSH policies, procedures with respect to any instructions and/or actions taken by the management to protect the employees and/or comply with OSH requirements which are relevant to their workplace.
  • Use of appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems and ensure they are maintained in good working condition.
  • Be familiar and participate in emergency management and evacuation drills.
  • Not wilfully or recklessly endanger anyone’s health and safety.
  • Assist with the preparation of risk assessments.
  • Report all OSH hazards, incidents and issues to their immediate supervisor.
  • Attend mandatory OSH trainings in accordance with the OSHMS requirements.

General

  • Act as an advocate for the vulnerable, challenging poor practice and discriminatory attitudes and behavior relating to their care.
  • Contribute to the wider corporate and organizational development needs as appropriate within the scope of practice.
  • Take responsibility to ensure complaints, concerns, and recommendations are escalated appropriately and documented.
  • Responsible to take action to report incidents, including near misses.
  • Compliance with Occupational Safety & Health Abu Dhabi Management System which integrates with the Health and Safety regulations of the facility.
  • Adhere to and promote recommended practice in relation to controlling and preventing infection, by taking all reasonable personal precautions necessary to avoid any potential health risks to colleagues, resident/patients’/patients’, families and visitors.
  • Comply and facilitate adherence of all staff to organizational policies, processes, and procedures.

Qualifications & Experience

Following are the requirements for the role of Medical Translator at Amana Healthcare:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in English Language or a degree in the medical field or Diploma in a relevant field.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in a healthcare facility.
  • Background in medical terminology.
