Medical Laboratory Supervisor Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City

Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City is seeking a Medical Laboratory Supervisor – General Laboratory in Abu Dhabi. The role is responsible for the supervision of all lab areas and services. The role holder will make sure that all services follow all applicable rules and procedures and assist the head of the department in managing the service on a daily basis.

Responsibilities of Medical Laboratory Supervisor

• Maintains and follow document and track changes in the section.
• Acts as designee for the Section Senior Supervisor’s absence.
• Conducts follow and monitor employee / trainee training and competency.
• Performs the daily activities associated with all services offered by the section and preparation or other key job.
• Carries on responsibility assigned by the Manager of the Laboratory / Chair of the Department.
• Participates in Laboratory Continuous Medical Education Program.
• Carries out other duties as assigned by the Senior Supervisor / Lab Manager / Chief of Section.
• Participates in section equipment training / trouble shooting and ensures the staff received the required technical training related to each machine and arranges additional technical / operational training as required.
• Conducts and plan equipment method validation, establish QC, writing SOP’s / procedure and other section activities / initiatives / continuous.
• Carry out other duties as assigned by the Senior Supervisor/Lab Manager/ measures.
• Manages document control including but not limited to, establish documents, validity of documents, approval, list of all internal and external documents and staff compliance, document retention, etc.
• Maintains and controls sufficient inventory of material supplies for daily work and report shortage of materials to the senior lab supervisor.
• Ordering and approving the replenishment when necessary. Follow the Lab reagent / consumables policy.
• Coordinates and handle supply recall and follow the policy.
• Prepares and selects in appropriate PT material to cover all services performed and prepare all documents needed to facilitate PT program.
• Leads and takes charge in department programs/committees and various hospital committees.
• Maintains processes for identifying risks of harm to patients and opportunities for improved patient care associated with its examinations and activities.

What you’ll do as Medical Laboratory Supervisor

• Communicate with the management regarding staff suggestions, concern and feedback staff.
• Monitor and maintain compliance with policies, procedures, section risk assessment, safety, laboratory licensing and regulatory requirements pertaining to assigned areas of responsibility (e.g. CAP, ISO, and JCIA).
• Determine section performance indicators and completes corrective actions as needed.
• Monitor stakeholders’ suggestions, concerns, complaints and complete corrective actions.
• Prepare and work on the section performance improvement projects.
• Maintain staff compliance with the occupational health / policies and procedures and Laboratory quality assurance program.
• Complete all mandatory programs assigned by the hospital, Lab department and section specific including training and competency testing.
• Comply with the assigned hospital, Lab department and section specific plans, policies and procedures.
• Maintain and follow professional and effective communication with patients, family and other medical personnel including accurate handover for other staff.
• Adhere to the requirement of the occupational health/policies and procedures and Laboratory quality assurance program.
• Ensure uninterrupted service.
• Implement the quality management system (QMS) in the section and assess the effectiveness of the QMS at least annually.
• Complying with Policies, Procedures, and Practices of the SSMC facilities and other regulatory requirements.
• Complying consistently with facility policies, procedures, and practices and ensuring alignment with SSMC facilities policies.
• Completing and maintaining regulatory requirements including licensure and certification and other mandatory training within established time frames.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Participate in LIS building and validation in collaboration with LIS coordinator.
• Prepare, review and investigate corrective actions and document.
• Assist and develop department internal audit process and prepare required reports.

Qualifications & Experience

Following is the eligibility criteria for the role of Medical Laboratory Supervisor – General Laboratory at SSMC:

• Laboratory science professional with NLT 2 years in a position as a laboratory supervisor.
• NLT 6 years of clinical experience in an accredited clinical laboratory environment by CAP or JCIA or Canadian Hospital accreditation or CPAC Clinical Pathology Accreditation (UK) or local experience in any accredited HAAD hospitals, since first registration as a qualified.
• NLT 8 years of clinical experience in a clinical laboratory environment since first registration as a qualified laboratory science professional and NLT 5 years since gaining higher qualification.
• UAE National: NLT 3 years of relevant experience in an acute care hospital and NLT 1 year manager or supervisory or equivalent experience. Evidence of progressive leadership and management experience in a clinical position.
