Job Description

University of Sharjah (UoS) is presently looking for qualified candidates for the job role of an Electronic Resources Librarian. The successful aspirant will be assigned to work at the department of Library Affairs. Job Purpose of An Electronic Resources Librarian

  • To be responsible for managing and troubleshooting online and subscription resources.
  • Handle and manage the acquisition of online resources including online databases and e-journals.
  • Contribute to the growth and development of the Library’s online collection at the University of Sharjah.
  • In addition to coordinating with publishers and vendors to manage access resolve technical issues, and respond to end users inquiries.

Job Duties of An Electronic Resources Librarian

  • Assist the line manager in creating, developing and implementing the System Management Section’s procedures by monitoring the process and ensuring its compliance with the Library and UOSs’ goals and strategic objectives, as well as implementing the best practices in the market.
  • Manage the daily operation of the library’s electronic resources including trials, subscriptions, licenses, budgeting, activating/deactivating and troubleshooting.  As well as analyze and interpret electronic resource usage statistics to support evidence-based decisions.
  • Oversee and coordinate the electronic resources’ acquisition, licensing, activation, assessment.
  • Support for all library systems such as Sierra, Database Discovery Tool, etc.
  • Respond to the end user’s inquiries by determining the required information and searching through standard reference materials to support educational activities, assignments and research.
  • Perform troubleshooting for issues such as ordering, subscriptions, and licensing for a variety of external and internal electronic resources and other library digital systems and services.
  • Liaise with external vendors to resolve access issues and ensure the e-resources are discoverable and accessible as required.
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with faculty, researchers, and library staff in order to complete work tasks and ensure the effective acquisition of e-resources.
  • Develop and deliver short training sessions, manuals, and guidelines to encourage the utilization of e-resources.
  • Help users access and use the library’s main applications and online resources.
  • Follow the UoS library standards and guidelines when completing daily work tasks, and communicating with external vendors and students.
  • Ensure that all staff members follow the correct policies, procedures and, guidelines, and provide assistance to them when needed.

What You’ll Do More As A Librarian?

  • Train, coach and provide technical expertise to new and current employees in electronic resources processes to ensure they acknowledge and understand their responsibilities and tasks.
  • Provide technical support and assistance to end users regarding any of the library’s electronic resources.
  • Participate in related projects that help support and improve the department and the University in general, and be an active member of the project team ensuring that all assigned tasks are completed accurately and on time.
  • Provide the necessary assistance and support to the line manager and other team members in ensuring the department / college KPIs are achieved successfully by gathering the necessary data, preparing progress reports and implementing the necessary action plans.
  • Prepare online manuals, video tutorials, and guidelines to help users access and use the library’s applications and online resources.
  • Keep up-to-date with new technology developments, advancements, and trends in the market in order to understand new technologies and enhance the library’s electronic services at UoS.

Who Can Apply?

Qualification

  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Library Administration, Library Information Systems, or a relevant discipline.
  • A Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline is a plus.

Experience

  • 2-4 years of UAE experience in a similar role preferably in higher education institutions.

Nationality

  • All nationalities (Priority for UAE Nationals).
