Legal Advisor American University in the Emirates

The American University in the Emirates is looking for an experienced and highly qualified Legal Advisor. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in providing legal guidance. The Legal Advisor ensures legal compliance, integrity, and representation of AUE in all legal matters, particularly related to UAE labor law and commercial law in the United Arab Emirates. The Legal Advisor provides legal advice to the university and ensures that all internal and external practices are in line with both local and international legal requirements.

Responsibilities of Legal Advisor

• Provide accurate and timely legal advice on various issues related to UAE legal system.
• Stay updated on new laws and regulations within the UAE that may affect the university, and effectively communicate relevant updates to concerned departments and suggest necessary amendments.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure legal compliance with UAE Laws in all university operations.
• Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of contracts, including but not limited to all types of employment contracts, memorandum of understanding, commercial agreements, vendors’ and clients’ contracts, and partnership agreements.
• Manage legal disputes, if any, and work towards resolution through negotiation or legal action.
• Draft, and review legal notices, and respond to legal notices.
• Represent the university in legal proceedings and disputes, upholding the institution’s interests and reputation.
• Participate in internal investigations, ensuring legal procedures and internal procedures are followed.
• Ensure all university documents comply with legal requirements.
• Draft and develop legal compliance policies and procedures and guidelines to ensure adherence to legal standards.
• Assist in negotiation processes for agreements and contracts.
• Create and promote legal awareness within the university community and conduct training sessions for relevant staff to enhance awareness of legal issues relevant to the university’s operation.

Job Requirements of Legal Advisor

• Bachelor’s Degree in Law from an accredited university.
• At least 3 years’ experience working in a legal/lawyer office as a legal consultant within the UAE.

Skills & Knowledge Desired

• Proficient in drafting legal documents.
• Good verbal and written communication skills in English and Arabic.
• In-depth knowledge of UAE legal system, and relevant procedures.
• In-depth knowledge of UAE labor law.
• Strong interpersonal skills, negotiation, and details oriented.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
