Lecturer/Assistant Professor Architecture (Generative Design), Canadian University Dubai

Canadian University Dubai (CUD) is presently hiring qualified candidate for faculty ranks of a Lecturer/Assistant Professor Architecture. The selected candidate’s teaching and research area is that of generative design methods and tools for the integration of digital fabrication in built environment through open innovation. This job vacancy is open for all nationalities residing in UAE, however, priority will be given to applicants with Canadian education background or professional practice in Canada.

Purpose of Lecturer/Assistant Professor Architecture

• Build structures, envelopes & environmental systems, achieved through generative design and digital craftmanship.
• Contribute to this research field by developing innovative concepts, tools and platforms to intertwine traditional construction techniques and digital innovation and to link them to industrial applications.
• This research area will also contribute to develop innovative projects in areas of the built environment including infrastructure, public spaces, buildings and districts.

Job Duties of Lecturer/Assistant Professor Architecture

• Teach 12 credits, typically resulting in one design studio and two taught courses a semester, including student academic mentoring.
• Research through classic academic realm via research projects, innovations, and publication or via industrial/architectural design or digital fabrication practice.
• Publications at a level appropriate for the discipline and designation.
• Applications to external research funds.
• Service to support the administrative side of the department, school and the university or extracurricular activities for students, staff, discipline.
• Participation in departmental activities and administrative life.

Qualification & Experience

• Bachelor’s / Master’s degree of Architecture or PhD related to generative/computational design.
• 3 years university level teaching experience, either full time, adjunct or visiting scholar at the undergraduate and graduate levels or equivalent professional experience in a design related field with an emphasis on computation.

Skills & Knowledge Desired

• Fluent in English.
• Proficiency with Rhinoceros Grasshopper (GHPython a plus).
• Proficiency with LSA (life cycle assessment).
• Ability to bridge knowledge of the laws of physics and environmental science with the creative aspects of design based education.
• Be familiar with emerging trends in machine learning and AI.
