Abdulla Bin Otaiba Charter School is looking for Learning Resource Assistant who is confident in using technology and willing to learn new programs; capable of disseminating technological knowledge to staff within the school To work alongside the school librarian to promote a love of reading to all children and to ensure the library is well stocked, well managed and organized. Aldar ideal candidate will be positive, with a flexible approach to work. They are a busy and aspirational school, so above all, an awareness that children’s learning needs come first.

Responsibilities of Learning Resource Assistant

With School Staff

  • Assist school in achieving its overall vision and strategic intentions and to contribute to the achievement of relevant targets as set out in the school’s improvement plan and self-evaluation form.
  • Comply with regulations pertaining to health and safety at work legislation and adhere to school policies relating to safe working practice and equal opportunities regulations.
  • Comply with the school’s Performance Management Policy ensuring challenging annual targets are set and to fulfil the role of performance management reviewer if directed to do so by the Principal.
  • Engage in annual training linked to child protection, safeguarding and health and safety together with all training deemed appropriate for the purpose of school improvement or performance management.
  • Comply with the school’s staff dress code at all times including the wearing of photo ID / lanyard.
  • Comply with the school’s computer Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) at all times
  • Attend all staff briefings.
  • Sign out and sign in at relevant school reception if off site at any point during the normal working day.

General Responsibilities

  • Adhering to roles and responsibilities all detailed by Lead Librarian.
  • Circulation Desk – checking books in and out of the library.
  • Cataloguing resources into the Follett Destiny Library Management System
  • Following up overdue, missing and lost books
  • Reselling books
  • Selecting topic books for issuing to classes
  • Ensuring the library data base is up to date by adding new pupils and deleting those who have left the school
  • Assisting with attractive displays
  • Assisting the students to select their books
  • Providing support in the library enabling all students to become independent library users
  • Reading to the students
  • Covering and repairing damaged books
  • Ensuring the library is tidy and a welcoming environment for all students
  • Assisting the Primary Lead Librarian to organize book fairs, author visits and book clubs
  • Assisting the Primary Learning Resources Coordinator with the Accelerated Reading Programme.

Job Requirements of Learning Resource Assistant

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree /Diploma.

Minimum Experience

  • 1-year experience in the same field.

Skills & Knowledge Desired

  • Good literacy skills and an excellent command of English
  • Good numeracy skills
  • Flexibility, personal initiative and skills in prioritization of tasks
  • Enthusiastic, motivated, resilient and patient
  • Ability to work flexibly as a member of a team, willing to work between primary and secondary library if and when required.
  • IT skills are essential, use of a Library Management Software system would be an advantage, however full training will be given.
