National Petroleum Construction Company (NPCC) is presently hiring for job position of a Lead Engineer (Materials & Corrosion) in Abu Dhabi. Lead Engineer (Materials & Corrosion) will assist in execution of materials & corrosion engineering discipline activities for a Project / Enquiry as assigned by the Principal Engineer / Head of Discipline (HOD) as applicable . The aspiring candidate must be well qualified with enough practical / on ground experience in the field of Corrosion. This job was listed by NPCC on 4 September 2023.

Job Purpose of A Lead Engineer (Materials & Corrosion)

  • During enquiry stage, reviews project’s scope of work pertaining to material selection and corrosion engineering.
  • Prepares FEED endorsement/qualifications list to confirm the scope for cost estimates.
  • Provide input to project risk assessment list to highlight the risk to NPCC due to ambiguity in the scope of work related to discipline.
  • Executes material selection and corrosion control design activities.
  • Provides technical support to other Engineering disciplines in the areas related to materials and corrosion.
  • Interfaces closely with other engineering disciplines, Project Engineering Manager (PEM), clients, consultants, vendors etc as required and provide flexible and responsive approach to resolve issues related to materials and corrosion.

Job Duties of A Lead Engineer (Materials & Corrosion)

  • Reports to the Principal Engineer and work under overall supervision of Head of Discipline (HOD).
  • Responsible for materials and related corrosion engineering activities for the assigned Project / Enquiry.
  • During enquiry Phase, reviews material selection / corrosion risks assessment studies & other relevant documents including painting & coating requirements etc.
  • Verifies correctness of material selection and corrosion control concepts as specified in the FEED documents.
  • Prepares man hours estimates for project scope.
  • Develops the man hours norms, if required.
  • Calculates and interprets corrosion rates for the project.

Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in metallurgy & corrosion engineering or a related field.

Experience

  • 15 years of experience in similar role in oil & gas industry.

Skills & Knowledge Desired

  • Basic knowledge of metallurgy & corrosion engineering focusing on materials selection /corrosion control & material specification/ standards applicable for Oil & Gas FEED/ EPC projects.
  • Knowledge of commonly used materials (metallic and non-metallic) in oil & gas industry along with relevant codes & standards like ASTM, API, ASME, EFC, NACE, NORSOK etc.
  • Capable of specifying materials for a particular applications such as well head systems, flow lines, pipelines, process piping, separators, desalters, stabilization systems, compressors, pumps, water injection systems, gas sweetening systems, gas dehydration system, fuel gas systems & utility systems.
  • Good knowledge of materials for use in sour service requirements
  • In depth knowledge of NACE standards MR0175/ISO 15156, MR0103, TM 0177, TM 0284 etc.
  • Sound knowledge of oil & gas industry materials & corrosion problems, failure investigations & risk assessment.
  • Understanding of life cycle cost, reliability, operability and maintainability with a particular focus on materials & corrosion engineering.
  • Good knowledge about corrosion monitoring requirements and corrosion control through chemicals.
  • Good knowledge about the dead leg identification within the pip.
