NMC Healthcare is seeking a UAE National candidate for the role of Laboratory Technologist at Royal Women’s Hospital in Abu Dhabi. Responsibilities of Laboratory Technologist

  • Identifies the patient – comparing patient information on the requisition to the patient’s identification before venipuncture is performed.
  • Performs venipunctures and skin punctures competently and expediently.
  • Demonstrates complete knowledge about which color top tube to use and the volume of blood needed. Knows test requirements, assists in Clinical Laboratory as needed.
  • Responsible for bleeding time tests, blood cultures, blood samples collection. Looks after the blood collection room requirements and maintains cleanliness and decorum of blood collection rooms.
  • Maintains specimen integrity by using aseptic technique, following department procedures; observing isolation procedures.
  • Collects therapeutic drug-monitoring assays by collaborating with nursing personnel to ensure appropriate drug dose to collection time.
  • Tracks collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection; maintaining daily tallies of collections performed.
  • Monitors glucose levels by performing bedside glucose tests; recording results; reporting results to unit nurse-manager.
  • Follows the appropriate procedure for obtaining and returning or cleaning / disposing of equipment and supplies.
  • Participates in Quality improvement projects and KPI’s.
  • Resolves unusual test orders by contacting the physician, pathologist, nursing station, or reference laboratory; referring unresolved orders back to the originator for further clarification; notifying supervisor of unresolved orders.
  • Enhances phlebotomy department and hospital reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests.
  • Fosters and facilitates peer teaching activities in a clinical setting.

Qualifications & Experience

Following is the eligibility criteria for the role of Laboratory Technologist – UAEN at NMC Healthcare:

  • Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology; Diploma in Nursing.
  • At least two (2) years of experience especially in the field of phlebotomy.
  • Currently licensed in country of origin and with HAAD license to practice in Abu Dhabi UAE.

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to review procedures and implement new models of service delivery to satisfy client and organizational requirements.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality outcomes and ability to consult with staff regarding continuous improvement.
  • Excellent command of oral and written English. Arabic language advantageous/desirable but not essential.
  • Possess a “can do” and flexible approach.
  • Ability to demonstrate highly developed communication and organizational skills at all levels.
  • Ability to provide compassionate care that is respectful to patients’ preferences.
  • Knowledge of computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision and in a team within a complex clinical setting.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and practice of confidentiality policy.
