Job Description

The Department of Biotechnology in the School of Arts and Sciences at the American University of Ras al Khaimah (AURAK) is seeking to hire a full time lab technician staff member starting Fall 2024 (mid August 2024). Candidates for this position must hold a B.S. in Chemistry / Biotechnology or other related discipline. Prior successful laboratory experience at the university level in performing laboratory experiments and maintaining equipment.

Responsibilities of Lab Technician

  • Performing laboratory experiments in compliance with established procedures
  • Identifying and troubleshooting equipment issues.
  • Maintaining laboratory equipment and tools in clean, safe and good conditions.
  • Following preventive maintenance procedures and notify maintenance personnel on any equipment repairs and malfunctions.
  • Generating routine reports on laboratory experiments.
  • Conducting laboratory tests according to equipment specifications and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Ordering and stocking laboratory supplies and instruments.
  • Working with other Technicians to complete laboratory tasks within assigned timelines.
  • Developing new laboratory procedures or enhancements to improve test quality and productivity.
  • Following proper waste disposal and recycling methodologies.

Job Requirements of Lab Technician

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Biotechnology, or any other related discipline, from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Minimum 2 year experience in similar role.
  • Experience in working effectively with a diverse student population.
  • Experience with professional accreditation requirements.

Skills & Knowledge Desired

  • Effective oral and written English communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty from a variety of disciplines.
