The Micro & Nano Fabrication Cleanroom Core Lab Specialist at Khalifa University is responsible for providing high quality instructional support in related laboratories, performing a broad range of duties related to the day to day operations of relevant laboratories; which includes equipment management, the maintenance of equipment and research support facilities, the training of users, the compliance of the lab with University Environmental, Health and Safety regulation (EHS) and proper and safe use of equipment and materials. The Core Labs Specialist is to promote a culture of continuous improvement in order to ensure the shared laboratories continue to provide excellent levels of research user services.
Responsibilities of Lab Specialist
Laboratory Safety:
- Ensure compliance with all aspects of Khalifa University Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) policies, driving practices and metrics for laboratory operations.
Laboratory Operations:
- Coordinate operational policies and procedures; work with research staff on issues impacting laboratory services.
- Supervise the performance of routine and specialized technical procedures in assigned laboratories.
- Assist in establishing laboratory goals and operational procedures for quality, efficiency, and waste reduction.
Technical Support:
- Maximize the operational efficiency of lab equipment and monitor new equipment functionality for compliance.
- Enhance lab operations by efficiently using existing equipment.
- Coordinate new equipment installation and maintain the inventory of all lab equipment.
Resource Management:
- Assist in determining fiscal requirements and preparing budgetary recommendations, including capital equipment expenditures.
- Ensure appropriate resource levels and comply with organizational expenditure requirements.
- Manage the inventory of commonly used lab supplies, maintenance parts, and other items related to research lab operations.
- Evaluate technical requirements based on bids received from potential vendors for purchasing lab equipment.
- Keep the lab website up to date, including training schedules, equipment schedules, and equipment descriptions.
- Guide faculty and researchers on purchasing consumables and accessories for equipment.
Research Services of Lab Specialist:
- Contribute to ongoing innovation and development of the research program.
- Maintain liaison with investigators, research personnel, and staff to resolve specific operating problems and improve technical activities.
Other:
- Adherence to the University’s information security and confidentiality policies and procedures is required, and breaches or other security risks should be reported accordingly.
- Coordinate with other departments as needed to facilitate the accomplishment of tasks and responsibilities.
- Perform any tasks assigned by the Line Manager.
Job Requirements of Lab Specialist
- Bachelor’s Degree in appropriate STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline.
- Expat: A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in research laboratories.
- UAE National: A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
