Responsibilities of Lab Assistant

• Provide laboratory support.
• Provide direct support in the preparation of all lessons taking place in science, ICT, Art and LEGO laboratories and classrooms.
• Be available in the laboratory or prep rooms to support all teaching staff in these areas.
• Support classroom delivery, as required.
• Manage laboratories and ensuring that the right equipment, tools, chemicals, and other materials are adequately stocked and kept in working condition.
• Liaise with academic staff to discuss timetables, equipment requirements and work plans.
• Run trials of experiments prior to classes and then demonstrate techniques for experiments.
• Ensure that all health and safety procedures are understood and followed correctly.
• Demonstrate accurate and appropriate use of all equipment.
• Set up, check, and issue, equipment, and apparatus for use in practical lessons as required by subject plans and in liaison with teaching staff.
• Retrieve and clear away apparatus and monitor stock levels.
• Maintain and repair equipment, laboratory, art and LEGO apparatus.
• Maintain required records and logs of all maintenance and servicing of equipment and facilities.
• Manage the stock control of all equipment.
• Ensure all equipment appropriately stored when not in use.
• Keep records, e.g. for students’ practical sessions, tracking methods and results.
• Ensure that equipment properly cleaned and that all materials appropriately stored.
• Support the work of teachers in classes and laboratory sessions and give technical advice to staff and students.
• Work with individual students and support them on research projects and in Extra Curricular Activities.
• Coordinate work in the laboratory to ensure efficient use made of expensive pieces of equipment.

Job Requirements

The requirements for the role of Lab Assistant are as under:

• Bachelors degree in related field.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role.
• Experience of US Common Core curriculum will be an advantage.
