Encompassing 200+ engineering specialists in 11 offices worldwide, the VDN team work closely to help customers meet their reliability, integrity, and operational performance goals. Wood VDN provide engineering solutions and services that improve machinery and piping system reliability and assist their Oil & Gas, Mining and Utilities clients to achieve optimal and safe production. Currently, Wood has an opening for Junior Vibration Engineer (Piping/Static) to develop their static equipment expertise and to work with the VDN team based in Abu Dhabi office. This position will report to the VDN Head of Department. The role holder will quantify and solve complex piping dynamics problems using state of the art field measurement equipment and sophisticated computer modelling techniques or be involved in designing reliable and efficient piping systems. The job ID for this vacancy is 3773.
Responsibilities of A Junior Vibration Engineer
- Dynamic measurements in support of vibration troubleshooting of piping and static equipment concerns (on- and offshore).
- Piping surveys to identify piping vibration concerns and devise practical solutions.
- Liaising with client personnel on site and at all other stages of projects.
- Completing qualitative and quantitative energy institute guidelines for the avoidance of vibration induced fatigue failure in process pipework vibration screening assessments of process plant.
- Completing Acoustic Induced Vibration (AIV) stage 1, 2 and 3 assessment.
- Completing general pipe stress analysis tasks (static and dynamic).
- Designing of anti-vibration piping supports.
- Completing reportage required for project with minimum oversight from senior colleagues.
- Managing technical and commercial aspects of small projects from initial proposal, through technical delivery, presentation to client and final invoicing.
- Assist the rotating equipment team where required and develop competence in rotating machinery.
Eligibility Requirements
The eligibility requirements for role of a Junior Vibration Engineer are as under:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and demonstrate CPD.
- Minimum 2 years of working in the on and offshore petrochemical industry.
- Demonstrable experience of piping and static equipment projects.
- Site based experience working at petrochemical or process sites.
- Experience in the design of piping supports and production of fabrication diagrams and welding specifications.
Knowledge & Skills Desired
- Knowledge and application of piping and static equipment industry standards (i.e. ASME B31.1, B31.3).
- Knowledge of typical piping components and fabrication methods.
- Working knowledge of performing vibration, dynamic stress (bonded and friction gauges), dynamic pressure and noise measurements.
- Understanding of process-related, operational and other common excitation sources and able to collect all information relating to these in support of project goals.
- Working knowledge of piping fatigue assessment and methodologies (e.g. fatigue life assessment, rainflow counting, Palmgren-Miner rule).
- Working knowledge of Qualitative and Quantitative EI Guideline type Vibration Risk Assessments of process plant (on and offshore).
- Understanding of the application of various simulation packages used by Wood VDN (FEA, CFD, acoustic, pulsation, surge analysis etc).
- Specific experience in the use of such packages (e.g. ANSYS, Caesar, PULS/BOSFluids, PipeNET) is desirable.
- Knowledge of associated reciprocating machinery standards (e.g. API 618 and API 674).
