The core function of the Head Hostess at Bab Al Shams Desert Resort is to oversee the host/hostess team and ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the restaurant’s front-of-house. This includes providing excellent guest service, managing reservations, and maintaining a welcoming atmosphere.

Duties of Host/Hostess

  • Guest Service: Ensure the delivery of exceptional guest service by coordinating seating arrangements, greeting, and escorting guests, and addressing any concerns or special requests.
  • Reservation Management: Manage restaurant reservations ensuring accurate record-keeping, effective table allocation, and timely follow-up with guests.
  • Seating Coordination: Coordinate the seating of guests optimizing table utilization while considering guest preferences, special events, and VIP requirements.
  • Front-of-House Operations: Oversee the overall organization and cleanliness of the restaurant’s front-of-house area including the reception desk, waiting area, and guest flow.
  • Communication Liaison: Serve as a communication liaison between the front-of-house and back-of-house teams ensuring effective coordination and smooth service flow.
  • Guest Satisfaction: Monitor guest feedback and promptly address any concerns or complaints, striving to enhance guest satisfaction and maintain a positive dining experience.
  • Training and Development: Train, coach, and mentor host/hostess staff providing guidance on guest service, reservation management, and effective communication.
  • Special Events and VIP Handling: Coordinate special events and VIP guest requirements, ensuring personalized service and attention to detail.
  • The Head Hostess at Bab Al Shams Desert Resort may be involved in planning and organizing special events, coordinating with other departments, and participating in meetings and training sessions related to front-of-house operations or overall F&B activities.

Requirements of Host/ Hostess

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree in hospitality, Hotel Management, or a related field is preferred.
  • Certification in Food and Beverage Service or Hospitality Management would be an advantage.
  • Valid certification in responsible alcohol service, such as TIPS (Training for Intervention Procedures) or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a host/hostess or front-of-house role, preferably in a luxury hotel or high-end restaurant setting.
  • Experience in managing reservations and seating coordination in a busy restaurant or hotel environment is highly desirable.

Skills and Knowledge Desired

  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with standard office software.
  • Familiarity with restaurant point-of-sale systems and reservation management software is advantageous.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of reservation management systems and procedures.
  • Understanding of restaurant seating arrangements, table management, and guest flow optimization.
  • Familiarity with fine dining etiquette, restaurant service standards, and customer service best practices.
  • Ability to handle guest inquiries, requests, and complaints with professionalism and efficiency.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to address reservation conflicts, accommodate special requests, and manage unexpected situations.
  • Knowledge of restaurant point-of-sale systems for order entry and billing processes.
  • Ability to train and develop host/hostess staff on guest service, reservation management, and effective communication
