Responsibilities of Head Welder

• Plans, coordinates and executes the welding tasks at the highest standard to ensure that the welding and grinding are within the approved tolerances.
• Executes the following welding activities.
  • Aluminothermic Welding.
  • Flashbutt Welding.
  • Cutting rail.
  • Clipping and un-clipping rail.
  • Use of the rail tensor.
  • Spot rail grinding.
  • Turnout grinding.
  • Manual tamping at the welding joint.
  • Other general track maintenance activities.
  • PS, PIC and WS duties.
• Operates the welding equipment in accordance with the operating manual and specifications.
• Responsible for the welding equipment.
• Performs operator maintenance on the welding equipment in accordance with the supplier’s guidelines and specifications.
• Supports the operation of the Track Maintenance Supervisor works scheduling and follow-up service.
• Ensures that the welding activities are performed according to the environmental guidelines for the prevention of fires and in a safe manner.
• Ensures a safe working environment for all employees and contractors operating in Etihad Rail.

• To comply with those elements of the Etihad Rail Operating Companies environment, health & safety management system and other company documents where specific responsibility is identified with the role or as a general requirement on all employees.

• Being aware of the current policies and procedures and their responsibilities for protecting corporate assets.
• Using corporate resources only for intended purposes as defined by policies and procedures of Etihad Rail.
• Being accountable for their actions relating to their use of all assets.

Requirements of Head Welder

Academic Qualifications

• School Certificate or equivalent.

Professional Qualifications 

• Welding certificate.
• Knowledge of Track Geometry and destressing techniques.
• Full driving license (Light and Heavy).

Experience

• 2-3 years of relevant industry experience.
• Experience in writing reports.

Skills and Abilities Desired

• English as first language or advanced level of verbal skill.
• Good planning skills.
• Ability to work in a multicultural team.
