Game Lab Specialist – MBRSC Dubai Full-time NEW

The American University in Dubai needs a Game Lab Specialist to support its Game Design and Development program. This full time role ensures the game lab is fully operational every day. You will manage computers, equipment, software, furniture, and the physical space. You will also enforce lab rules and maintain safety and cleanliness. In addition, you will support students with software setup, debugging, and performance troubleshooting. The position reports to the Program Lead and works closely with faculty, IT, Facilities, Procurement, and Marketing. If you hold a bachelor degree in game design, computer science, or a related field, this role suits you. Proficiency in Unity or Unreal Engine is essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure the game lab is fully operational and ready for use every day

• Manage computers, equipment, software, furniture, and the physical space

• Enforce lab rules and procedures for equipment use, access, safety, and cleanliness

• Set up, maintain, and troubleshoot lab computers, input devices, and display equipment

• Manage internet and network connectivity and escalate issues to IT when needed

• Install, update, and standardize all required software across lab machines

• Use game engines, development tools, drivers, and plugins

• Maintain consistent lab machine images for all students

• Take on teaching responsibilities when formally assigned

• Work under academic oversight of the Program Lead

• Provide direct support to students during the day and during production

• Help with software setup, debugging, build and export issues

• Assist with basic performance troubleshooting

• Maintain lab documentation and asset control

• Keep inventory records and manage equipment check in and check out

• Report equipment condition and submit maintenance and repair requests

• Handle non technical items such as furniture and room fixtures

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in game design and development, Computer Science, Interactive Media, or a related field

• Equivalent professional experience is also acceptable

• Proficiency in game development pipelines

• Experience with at least one game engine such as Unity or Unreal Engine

• Experience with both engines is a plus

• Working knowledge of programming or scripting languages such as C, C++, Python, or JavaScript

• Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to students and faculty

• Strong problem solving skills

• Ability to multitask and work independently and collaboratively

• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

• Master degree in game design and development or a related field

• Prior industry experience in game development, interactive media, or technical support

• Experience in higher education as a mentor, teaching assistant, or workshop facilitator
