Engineer Laboratory University of Sharjah

Engineer Laboratory at The College of Engineering, Deparment of Nuclear Enginner in University of Sharjah is responsible to supervise, maintain and upgrade the laboratory facilities related to chemical and water desalination engineering program, support faculty and students who are using them, as well as safely test the labs and assure proper functioning of facilities, materials and equipment.

Responsibilities of Engineer Laboratory

• Mange and follow up all activates/process/procedures related to Water Chemistry Analysis Lab, Chemical Fluid Mechanics Lab and Chemical Thermodynamics Lab.
• Provide technical support to students and instructors in lab hardware/software peripherals and in the use of mixed labs facilities and devices during lab experiments sessions for water analysis, fluid mechanics and thermodynamics labs.
• Assist in collecting data of lab experiments data and provide needed support for students in analyzing these data, as well as assist students in writing their technical reports of the lab experiments.
• Prepare experiment manuals and lab safety plans by gathering information from previous experiments to ensure high levels of safety as well as perform water quality testing when required.
• Supervise various periodic upgrades, maintenance and troubleshooting activities in the lab(s).
• Install, configure, upgrade, troubleshoot and maintain related software, hardware and lab peripheral devices each semester and when necessary to ensure compliance with license agreements and copyright legislation.
• Ensure the accurate installation of the new equipment and experiment units; also ensure that the experimental units are run properly after installation.
• Maintain and update laboratory inventory by requesting laboratory equipment, software, materials as per the required specifications.

What Will You Do More

• Assist faculty members in various course activities such as practical classes, student assignments, grading, attendance, exam invigilation, etc. when requested.
• Ensure that safety standards and protocols are followed all the time in the lab(s), and implement safety training for both faculty and students.
• Able to instruct and supervise water chemistry and analysis lab course that includes the characterization and analysis of water quality analytically.
• Able to instruct and supervise polymer engineering lab course that includes the operation of chemical reactors as well as synthesis and characterization of polymer membranes for CWDE applications.
• Able to instruct and supervise desalination lab course that includes the operation of both membrane and thermal based desalinations laboratory equipment.

Job requirements of Engineer Laboratory

• Minimum of bachelor’s degree or Master (prefered) in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science and Engineering, water quality, treatment, desalination or a relevant discipline.
• 6-8 years of UAE experience in similar role preferably in higher education institutions.
• Priority is to UAE Nationals.
• Good experience using relevant laboratory equipment, testing, troubleshooting, calibration and operation techniques.

Skills & Knowledge Desired

• Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to prepare professional documents, in both Arabic and English.
• Familiarity with necessary programs and/or computer software.
• Project and time management skills.
