Director Internal Audit Maritime at Abu Dhabi Ports will be responsible for reporting to the Maritime Cluster’s Audit and Risk Committee (ARC), the Internal Audit (IA) Director within the Maritime Cluster is responsible to carry out, direct and manage the overall Internal Audit (IA) activities within the cluster in line with the Standards of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA).

Duties of Director Internal Audit

  • Develop and update periodically the IA strategy plan, including the initiatives for achieving the plan.
  • Execute the IA strategy plan in line with leading practices.
  • Ensure appropriate progress monitoring of the strategic initiatives, designed to deliver the strategic plan.
  • Develop and effectively manage the IA budget in line with the IA strategy plan and oversee the preparation of periodic updates on spend against budget.
  • Implement the corporate IA policies and procedures (including the IA methodology and IA Delegation of Authority).
  • Oversee activities to ensure that all team members, including service providers, are familiar with the policies and procedures.
  • Develop, implement and update the IA charter.
  • Develop a risk assessment exercise to cover the operational, financial and IT processes within the Maritime Cluster.
  • Evaluate the adequacy of internal controls implemented by management.
  • Develop risk based annual IA plan.
  • Lead the planning of IA engagements in line with the IA plan. This includes the identification of risks, development of audit programs, assigning tasks to auditors, establishing timelines for individual engagement tasks, among others.
  • Lead the execution of IA engagements in accordance with the annual IA plan and in compliance with the IIA standards and IA manual.
  • Manage and approve engagements budgets, plans and allocation of staff.
  • Review the results of planning and fieldwork activities of the team.
  • Manage the preparation of draft and final audit reports.
  • Ensure that the audit reports are comprehensive, complete and concise and are built based on an accurate information/data analysis.
  • Ensure that management action plans reflect the audit observations and recommendations and are reasonable, achievable and able to be tracked through a follow up engagement.
  • Oversee the consolidation of follow-up reporting to present an overall picture for the cluster’s ARC.
  • Plan the execution of special investigations as requested by the cluster’s ARC.

What You’ll Do More?

  • Prepare, conduct presentations and executive reports illustrating the key outcomes of completed reviews to be addressed to the IA team at ADP, cluster’s ARC and senior management on a quarterly basis or as frequently required.
  • As required by the corporate’s IA department, assess the quality of the cluster’s IA functions against the IIA standards and leading practice, the IA manual and IA charter to enable continuous improvement of the processes and procedures.
  • Lead the communication of the results obtained from the quality assurance reviews to senior stakeholders, including ADP’s ARC and IA team at ADQ.
  • Coordinate with the Statutory Auditors, ADQ IA Department and the Abu Dhabi Accountability Authority (ADAA).
  • Oversee the periodic retendering process and ongoing monitoring of service providers to ensure that maximum value is delivered.
  • Develop and maintain an IA Toolkit for use by the portfolio teams to support new IA functions and the ongoing development of existing IA functions.
  • Continually update knowledge of latest IA global best practice (through proactive networking, participation in benchmarking opportunities, and online research), and identify enhancements to IA practices for incorporation into the IA strategy plan (as appropriate).

Eligibility Requirements

The eligibility requirements for role of a Director Internal Audit Maritime are as under:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any field.
  • A recognized certification such as CIA, CPA, CFA, ACCA, CMA, CISA, CFE, or other equivalent certification.
  • Minimum 15 years of relevant experience in maritime or related industries.

Skills Desired

  • Ability to influence, communicate, and lead discussions with clusters’ IA Directors, Cluster’s ARC members, senior-level management and ADQ’s IA team.
  • Proven ability in leading internal audit teams and managing co-sourcing partners.
  • In-depth knowledge of governance, risk and control frameworks and concepts, and the IIA’s International Professional Practices Framework.
  • Strong relationship management skills based on credibility, rapport, and trust.
  • Strong business acumen and industry knowledge.
  • Advanced critical thinker, providing objective assurance and insight to management.
