Job Description

HSBC is currently looking for suitably qualified and experienced candidate for role of Country Business Head. The successful candidate must possess a unique blend of entrepreneurial acumen, leadership skills, passion, energy and experience to successfully grow and scale the business. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting the strategic direction of the company, building a strong team and driving execution to achieve company’s vision. The end to end accountability includes managing and scaling the local business cutting across customer acquisition, P&L management, fulfilling regulatory obligations in relation to operations, compliance, people, legal, information, fraud, cross-border activity, reputation and brand as well as financial controls and financial exposure.

Responsibilities of Country Business Head

  • Responsible for setting the strategic direction of the company, building a strong team, and driving execution to achieve our vision.
  • The end to end accountability includes managing and scaling the local business cutting across customer acquisition, P&L management, fulfilling regulatory obligations in relation to operation
  • Act as Board member of the local regulated entity /Chair of country ExCo.
  • Build core stakeholder relationship with the Global CEO, other Global ExCo members and other senior members of this fintech venture.
  • Liaise with the Global Expansion team and drive the process end-to-end: understand the regulations, execute on the application with support from right subject matter experts and get the regulatory buy-in.
  • In collaboration with Global Expansion and Growth teams, responsibility for making decisions on what problems to solve for which customers, how to prioritize, etc
  • Delivers updates on business, strategy to the board of directors and other stakeholders
  • Maintain and improve relationships with financial institutions (banks, payment companies, card schemes) and lead commercial negotiations to drive down costs. You will be accountable for our economics to ensure that our proposition is competitive, if needed.
  • Formulating strategies for expansion and key offerings for growth and profitability
  • Set comprehensive goals for performance and growth

Requirements of Country Business Head

The requirements of Country Business Head are as under:

  • Bachelors or Master’s degree in business administration or a related field.
  • Proven experience as executive leadership role with 10+ years of experience in leadership roles, preferably in the fintech payments industry or a bank.
  • Experience of building business relationships with financial institutions in the market and dealing with risk/compliance teams within these institutions.
  • Experience leading a startup or early stage company is a plus.

Skills and Knowledge Desired

  • Proven track record of driving growth and profitability and strategic thinking and decision making abilities.
  • Strong financial acumen along with experience in managing risk and ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Excellent at managing external relationships (regulators and financial institutions).
  • Familiarity with current and emerging technologies in financial services.
  • A robust professional network within the payments industry.
  • Strong technical knowledge of risk associated with retail multi currency operations, payment and cross border transactions, as well as digital banking models and digital wallets.
