Responsibilities Conservator of Antiquity

• Analyze & prepare preservation plan artifacts metal/wood/ceramic/stone based on global best practices for archaeology.
• Carrying out an inventory and recording of collectibles by contributing to the preparation of digital records for the collection of artifacts.
• Carrying out restoration work for antiquities and artifacts based on the best international practices, including specialized restoration work according to the type and material of the item in order to protect it from harm or damage
• Preparing detailed reports on restoration projects and linking them to digital records of antiquities
• Participate with antiquities work teams in transporting, restoring, maintaining and installing antiquities for temporary exhibitions and preparing and submitting status reports for antiquities displayed in the permanent and temporary exhibitions.
• Supervising the examination of antiquities and artifacts using scientific tools such as X-rays, infrared imaging, and microscopic analysis to issue the necessary reports on the condition of the artifacts.
• Organizing and managing antiquities stores with the aim of providing a stable environment for preserved antiquities and reducing risks.

What you will do more?

• Preparing policies and procedures related to the preservation of artifacts and following up on their implementation.
• Ensure and work on the availability of environmental requirements for storing and preserving antiquities in stable conditions and when displaying them in permanent and temporary exhibitions.
• Spread awareness of environmental requirements.
• Preparing lists of materials for the restoration laboratory, coordinating material required for the archaeological preservation plan, & ensuring their availability.
• Flexibility to work from multiple locations (archaeological sites, warehouses, historical buildings, etc.).
• Participate in the auditing and inventorying of antiquities.
• Complete the annual inventories required to prepare detailed lists of antiquities and submit the necessary reports to the direct official.
• Contributing to the preparation and implementation of the annual plan for the preventive restoration of antiquities and submitting improvement reports and recommendations to the direct official.
• Contributing to the preparation of evaluation and insurance plans for collectibles.
• Perform other job-related tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements of Conservator Antiquity

• Bachelor’s degree in restoration (archaeological and heritage objects i.e metals, wood, ceramics, stone) or something similar to this specialty.
• 6-8 years of experience in restoring museum collections.
