Responsibilities of Commis Chef

  • Assist in the preparation and cooking of various dishes in accordance with the menu and recipes provided by the culinary team.
  • Collaborate with the kitchen brigade to ensure smooth operations and timely delivery of dishes to the guests.
  • Follow established guidelines for portion sizes, presentation, and food quality to uphold the hotels culinary standards.
  • Prepare and handle ingredients, ensuring their freshness and quality are maintained.
  • Assist in maintaining a hygienic and organised kitchen environment by adhering to food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Contribute to the development of new dishes, menu items, and food presentation techniques.
  • Attend training sessions and workshops to continuously improve culinary skills and stay updated with industry trends.
  • Support the team during busy service periods and special events, maintaining a high level of efficiency and professionalism.

Requirements of Commis Chef

The requirements of Commis Chef are as under:

  • Completed kitchen apprentice or chefs professional course.
  • 1-2 years of previous experience as a Commis Chef or equivalent role in a luxury hotel or fine dining restaurant is preferred.
  • Pre opening experience in a hotel or restaurant is advantageous, demonstrating an ability to thrive in a dynamic and evolving environment.

Skills and Knowledge Desired

  • A formal culinary qualification or relevant culinary training is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Strong passion for food, creativity, and an eagerness to learn and adapt.
  • Ability to work under pressure, handle multiple tasks, and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills to work harmoniously within a diverse culinary team.
  • Thorough knowledge of HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) principles and practices to ensure food safety and hygiene.
  • ‘FIVE Styled’ Visionary thinking by finding creative solutions, while taking Ownership for all duties and tasks assigned.
  • Impeccable communication skills, both verbal and written, with fluency in English
  • A hands on attitude, fuelled by a ‘Can Do!’ Spirit.
